Joe Sakic said he will decide soon regarding his decision to play or retire, according to SI.com. He commented, "I needed some extra time this year. It's been a very, very difficult decision to make. I'm hoping to have something here in the next couple of weeks, make my final decision and go forward with it. I should make my final decision pretty soon. Joe Sakic likely won't make a decision on his playing status until closer to September's training camp, according to the Denver Post. Sakic said, "I've got some time. I want to make sure I'm 100 percent whichever way I choose. I've played the game my whole life. Just mentally, right now, I'm still in a state of still deciding. When I know for sure, I can't tell you when that is going to be, but it will be before camp."

Joe Sakic has told GM Francois Giguere that he still isn’t ready to make a decision regarding his playing future, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Team VP Jean Martineau stated, "Francois told him to take the time that he needs to take. Don’t expect a decision soon or in the coming days. We told him that we would wait for when he would be ready to let us know."

Joe Sakic showed why the Hall of Fame has a place set for his name, scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-2 OT victory over the Minnesota Wild to take a one-game lead in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. It was a great overall team effort for the Avs, but as has happened so many times in the past, it was Sakic getting it done when it mattered most.

Joe Sakic got in a full practice on Saturday but wasn't sure he'd be ready to play on Sunday, according to the Denver Post. "I think there's a chance, but we still have to wait to see how everything feels (overnight) and go from there in the morning," Sakic said. "Every day has felt a little better, and things felt pretty good today, so we'll see. I want to play, for sure, but it'll be up to the trainers before I get the full go-ahead." Consider Sakic, who is recovering from heria surgery, to be a game-time call Sunday.

Joe Sakic, and Paul Stastny, will accompany the team on its 5-game road trip that starts on Wednesday. Stastny is trying to overcome a groin injury, Sakic a hernia operation, and the fact that they will both be with the team would seem to signal that they are getting very close to finding themselves back in the lineup.

Joe Sakic, on injured reserve after hernia surgery, did some skating on his own before practice yesterday and is making progress in his recovery, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "In the back of everybody's mind it's encouraging knowing that he's getting closer and that he'll be helping to inject some experience and leadership, a top hockey player, to our group," Avalanche head coach Joel Quenneville said. "It's encouraging to see the progress he's making, and that he's not so far away." Even though he's pushing 40, Sakic is still an elite offensive player.

Joe Sakic returned to the ice on Monday as he skated prior to the Avalanche's practice according to the AP. Sakic, attempting to comeback from hernia surgery, still has a few hurdles to clear before being cleared for game action. Always a point-per-game performer, Sakic should once again return to that level once he is healthy enough to skate.
