Gary Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the Lightning, according to TSN.ca. Roberts will be paid a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 regular season.

Gary Roberts feels like he's recovered from his bout with pneumonia, but the veteran won't play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, according to TSN.ca. "I've been told I'm not playing tomorrow night," said Roberts. "But it's not the time for me to bitch and complain. I've enjoyed being around this group of guys. I've had a trying year, health wise, not the year I wanted to have. But I'm excited to be here and be part of this thing. Hopefully at some point I'll get that chance."

Gary Roberts had denied that he had a case of pneumonia, but he's now confirmed that that is in fact what he is dealing with, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The veteran said it is the third time in the past two years he has had that illness. "I've got to make sure it doesn't get escalated to the point where I'm in the hospital, like I was two summers ago," he said.

Gary Roberts won't play in Game 3 against the Rangers tonight and will miss his fifth consecutive playoff game due to his groin injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Penguins' coach Michel Therrien said, "We want Gary Roberts back in the line-up, but we need him back at the right time. The chemistry is there with our club. We've got not reason to take anybody out of the lineup. Eventually he's going to be back in the lineup, but it needs to be done at the right time."

Roberts stated, "At this point, we'll see how it goes today before making any decisions about whether I'll be playing or not. Gary Roberts may have missed a large portion of the regular season with a broken leg, but his return couldn’t have gone better in leading the Penguins to a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators. Roberts buried a puck in the net in the first period and returned for seconds in the third period with is second goal of the day. He also tossed in 16 PIM at the end of regulation.

Gary Roberts hopes to be able to return for the Penguins last game of the season to get ready for the playoffs, this according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Roberts has been out since December 29th with a broken leg and high ankle sprain. "I need a few more days of practice, but it definitely feels better....Hopefully, with no setbacks [over] the next few days, maybe I'll play Sunday." Roberts is the prototypical playoff performer in that he is gritty and possesses offensive upside. His experience and skill would be a huge boost to the Penguins.
