Mats Sundin agreed to a new one-year contract with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. The deal is worth $5.5 million, according to ESPN.com. Sundin logged 76 poins in 75 games last season.

Mats Sundin and the Maple Leafs appear close agreeing on a two-year contract extension, according to the Toronto Star. The Leafs have until Friday to pick up their option on next season, so they should have the new deal in place within a couple of days. The Maple Leafs received good news when an orthopedic surgeon determined that forward Mats Sundin does not need hip surgery. He had a full evaluation of his hip and the diagnosis was no surgical intervention, agent J.P. Barry is quoted as saying in a story posted on NHL.com. The Leafs have the option to pick up the final year of Sundins contract.
