It was just an exhibition game in Sweden, but free-agent winger Peter Forsberg scored a hat trick Tuesday, raising the hopes that the injury-prone center's career isn't finished. According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Avalanche are very interested in learning the answer to that question and hope to get him signed to return in 2008. "He moved around without any problem, and he looked pretty fresh," Swedish national coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

Forberg often dominated the puck when he was on the ice as he continues to demonstrate why he is considered by some to be one of the toughest players to knock off the puck that has ever pulled on a pair of skates.

Peter Forsberg didn't score a point in Colorado's first playoff game this season, but the good news is that he was able to skate 21:29 in the game which seems to signal that he is pretty much healthy for the Avalanche. Forsberg is a point-per-game scorer in the playoffs in his career, so look for him to put up his fair share of points against the Wild.

Peter Forsberg continues to battle injuries but that doesn't mean he has lost his passion for the game. In fact, he is saying that he would like to play beyond this season, this according to the Denver Post. "When I signed here, I said I wanted to play beyond this year. But we'll see what happens in the offseason." How about this Peter, why don't you worry about actually playing this season before we start worrying about next year? Forsberg suited up for just nine of the 18 games that he was available for this year, but he still produced 14 points in those nine games. He has been one of the greatest playoff performers in league history, so keep that in mind in playoff pools.

"I don't know how it's going to be. It all depends on how I feel...I'm just hoping the body's going to hold up." Just how will Forsberg's body handle the pounding of the playoffs? As long as he is out there he will produce, but there is just no way to know how long he will be out there.

Forsberg worked on the Tyler Arnason and David Jones line and then later in the game replaced Ryan Smyth on the Paul Stastny-Milan Hejduk line. "To be honest, it was killing me for the first couple of days (since joining Colorado last week), but today it felt better," Forsberg said. Forsberg is still battling a nagging foot injury that has plagued him in the last few years. “It’s more Peter’s call because he knows his body,” Quenneville said. “I’ll visit with him in the morning and see how he feels.” Quenneville said he doesn't feel he needs to rush Forsberg into the lineup. Forsberg signed with the Colorado Avalanche, a one-year deal with the terms yet to be announced. The Red Wings made a pitch to sign free-agent center Peter Forsberg, but he let them know he is not interested in playing for Detroit, according to MLive.com. Forsberg has been skating and working out in his native Sweden and recently gave his agent the go-ahead to begin negotiating with a select group of NHL teams, which doesn't include the Red Wings. The longtime Avalanche star apparently would feel somewhat like a traitor if he joined his former club's one-time arch-rival.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren returned home from a trip to Sweden yesterday with no idea whether Peter Forsberg is going to return to the NHL this season, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I honestly don't have a feel for what his decision will be, and I didn't get to see him skate," Holmgren said. "From talking to him, I'm not sure he is ready in his own mind. He doesn't seem to know if he's OK. When he's ready, he'll make a decision." The Flyers are believed to have offered Forsberg, who is still suffering from an ailing right foot, a two-year contract worth about $2.6 million. A number of clubs, including Ottawa, Detroit and Dallas - which has made a heavy pitch - are believed to have offered far more money.

Peter Forsberg was quoted in yesterday's edition of the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet as saying he had declined an offer to play for Modo, his former Swedish club, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. That's a good sign for fantasy folk, as it means that if he decides to play this season, it should be in the NHL. Still, whether he will be able to play through his bum ankle remains to be seen. Forsberg's an unrestricted free agent, so he can sign with any team if he decides to return to the NHL.
