Joni Pitkanen has been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Erik Cole, according to TSN. "Joni is the type of puck-moving, offensive player we hoped to add to our defensive corps," said Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford. "He is a proven NHL player who will join Joe Corvo in strengthening our power play."

Joni Pitkanen has become a spark that for Edmonton Oilers fans this offseason, and according to the Edmonton Journal the question is -- do they keep him, do they trade him? The report notes the Oilers are considering opting Joni Pitkanen a qualifying offer of $2.4 million to keep his rights.

Joni Pitkanen will suit up tonight for the Oilers despite a sore groin, according to TSN.ca. He had been considered doubtful for the contest. If you're using Pitkanen, feel free to leave him in your lineup. It's possible his ice time will be decreased, though.

Joni Pitkanen could very easily miss the Oilers next game on Tuesday, this according to TSN. Pitkanen had an MRI on Monday, and though the results have not yet been made public, Joni is being listed as doubtful for Tuesday's matchup with the Flames. Pitkanen does just enough to be considered a number four defensemen in deep leagues, but his loss certainly isn't big news at this point of the season.

Joni Pitkanen had a goal and an assist in Wednesday's win over the Blackhawks. The Oilers need the two-time 40-point blueliner to pick up some offensive slack with Sheldon Souray likely done for the season. He has just 16 points in 39 games this season.
