Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov had three assists in over 20 minutes of ice time to help Buffalo defeat the Maple Leafs 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.
March 5, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov failed to register a point for the first time in March, though he was still named the third star in the Sabres loss on Monday. Since returning to the lineup Maxim has two goals and four points in four games as he tries to salvage what has been up until this point a massively disappointing season (9-13-22 in 42 games).
February 29, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov returned to action Friday after missing 26 games with a torn groin muscle. He played 11 minutes and had one shot on goal. Afinogenov probably won't be a big fantasy factor over the rest of the year since he's missed so much time, but he could be worth an add in deeper leagues.
February 29, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov took part in a full practice on Thursday and was removed from injured reserve, according to the Buffalo News. However, coach Lindy Ruff appeared to be leaning toward holding Afinogenov out of Friday's game. Afinogenov was playing poorly before his groin injury cost him 26 games, but he could end up a nice late-season sleeper if he can get his game back on track.
February 25, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov skated with his teammates on Sunday in the Amherst Pepsi Center. The winger, according to the The Buffalo News, hasn’t played since Jan. 1 because of a tear in his groin, but could return to the lineup as soon as next week. The report noted that Maxim participated at about 85 percent level [Sunday]. Afinogenov would not comment on that timetable, saying only that he feels better.
February 23, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov tested his ailing groin by skating on his own Friday, according to the Buffalo News. "Skating lightly right now, which is an improvement," said coach Lindy Ruff. There remains no timetable for when he'll return to action.
February 10, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov, who has missed 16-games with a partial tear in his groin, has apparently suffered a setback after all in his attempt to return to the ice. “Originally I declared it not a setback,” HC Lindy Ruff said. “Now it’s looking more like a setback. He still has some pain. His strength is pretty good, but the pain is still there. Groins are tough. He’s got a small groin tear that’s taking longer than we anticipated.” Afinogenov, like many of the Sabres, has failed to produce offensively with just 18 points in 38 games. With Drew Stafford also dealing with an injured ankle that could keep him out of action for a couple of weeks, the Sabres will need to turn to others to help score off the wing, perhaps in the form of Ales Kotalik and Daniel Paille. February 9, 2008
The Sabres currently have no timetable set for when Maxim Afinogenov will be able to return from his torn groin muscle, according to the Buffalo News. He aggravated the injury on Monday and is not skating with the team.
February 7, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov could be back as soon as Friday, according to the Buffalo News. He's been out since Jan. 1 with a torn groin muscle, and the injury flared up on him Monday. "Max is the same [as Tuesday]," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He still has some discomfort there. We're holding him off the ice and we'll see where he is [today]."
February 6, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov, who left practice early Monday because of his injured groin, is doing better and could return to practice later this week, according to the Buffalo News. He's been out since Jan. 1 with a torn groin muscle.
February 4, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov suffered a setback in practice on Monday and will be out of the lineup when the Sabres play in Boston on Tuesday night, according to the Buffalo News. Afinogenov has missed the past 13 games with a torn groin muscle. "We thought he was close to playing," Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff said. "We don't know really how bad it is. He's just feeling it again so the decision we made was to get him off the ice."
February 2, 2008
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said that Maxim Afinogenov is expected to return to action on Tuesday, according to the Buffalo News. He's missed the past 13 games with a torn groin muscle and will try to turn around his disappointing season (18 points in 38 games) over the final couple of months.
February 1, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov skated with his Sabres teammates Thursday for the first time in two weeks, according to the Buffalo News. His slightly torn groin responded well enough that he might actually return to game action on Friday. The bigger question in fantasy terms is whether he can regain his his point-per-game form of the past couple of seasons after posting just 18 points in 38 games this season.
January 12, 2008
The Sabres will play another game without the services of Maxim Afinogenov again on Saturday, according to the Buffalo News. He remains out indefinitely due to a shoulder injury.
January 8, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov missed another game Tuesday due to his sore groin. He's now missed three straight starts due to the ailment, and no timetable for a return is set.
January 7, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov missed his second straight game on Sunday due to a strained groin. He has yet to skate since sustaining the injury during Thursday's practice, according to the Buffalo News. Don't look for him to return to game action until he gets some practice in on the ice.
January 5, 2008
Maxim Afinogenov was held out of Friday's game due to an injured groin. "Right now we’ve got it day to day, but it could be a number of days before he plays," coach Lindy Ruff told the Buffalo News. He's had a disappointing season, tallying just seven goals and 18 points, as well as a minus-10 rating, so maybe a break would do him some good.
