Shawne Merriman will not rush a decision as to what to do about his injured knee (torn PCL), according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He is considering three main options. He can resume practicing and begin the season on time, have a minor surgery that would keep him out a short while or undergo reconstructive surgery that would erase his 2008 season. The main issues with the injured knee are pain, swelling, and instability. Coach Norv Turner said, "We're going to do everything we can to create a situation where he's not in pain and the leg gets the strength back and he's able to go play."

Shawne Merriman has ligament damage in his left knee and is weighing his options, according to the North County Times. He said, "It's a loose ligament and I'm waiting to get more info on what I need to do." Merriman was examined by Dr. James Andrews, as Merriman has been having recurring knee pain throughout training camp and hasn't practiced since playing in the preseason opener against the Cowboys on August 9. Coach Norv Turner said after Thursday's practice that he didn't want to speculate on how long Merriman might have to deal with knee pain. Turner expects Merriman to return to Chargers Park at some point on Friday, and said, "I think he can be close to 100 percent and get back with some real good rehab work. He's been doing a great job with it and I think he just needs some more time right now."

San Diego’s third-round draft pick out of LSU, Hester scored on runs of 1 and 2 yards. He gained 49 yards on 13 carries.

"It was a big hurdle to me," Pinnock says. "I was able to put my pads on, get some reps, hit the bag and explode off. Coming out of my steps it felt good. I had a couple of passes where I really wanted to see where I was at as far as taking a flat route to my left and turning up on my left. I stuck my foot in the ground pretty hard a couple times and I didn’t feel anything different, so that was a relief."
