August 13, 2008 Newly-acquired fullback (and future Hall of Fame candidate) Lorenzo Neal is making a strong impression in his first days with the Baltimore Ravens, according to ESPN.com. After being cut by the San Diego Chargers in February, the 37-year-old Neal was virtually ignored despite making it clear he had no desire to retire. The 5-foot-11, 255-pounder stayed in excellent shape, and finally began preparing his return to the NFL after taking a call from Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome about a week and a half ago. Reports today indicate he is up to his old tricks, opening tremendous rushing lanes for several of the Ravens' running backs in practices today (not including Willis McGahee, hampered by injury).

February 21, 2008 Lorenzo Neal is on the trading block according to a report in the San Diego Union Tribune. I talked with Coach (Norv) Turner, Lorenzo and (agent) Steve Feldman regarding his future, Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said. We will explore trade opportunities and see if anything works out for all parties. Neal is one of the best blocking backs in league history as he has blasted defenders out of the way for a myriad of 1000-yard rushers. However, he is 37-years of age and his best days are clearly behind him, and he has never been a fantasy factor anyway. It will be interested to see how LaDainian Tomlinson does without him. We figure he will be just fine.
