The Ravens initially met with Flacco's agent Joe Linta on May 12 to begin discussing the structure of an anticipated five-year deal for the 18th overall selection. Linta said on Friday, "Good meeting, moving forward. Long way to go, but making progress."
May 13, 2008 Joe Flacco and the Ravens have begun contract negotiations, according to ESPN. Agent Joe Linta arrived in Baltimore Sunday night and spent Monday with the team setting up parameters of what is expected to be a five-year deal for Flacco. The intent from both sides is to make sure Flacco arrives in training camp on time this summer, so he could compete with Kyle Boller and Troy Smith for the Ravens' starting job at quarterback. Linta added, "They want him in and he wants to be in. So the sooner that you start talking, the better chance you have of finishing before the deadline."
