The Miami Dolphins have not been impressed with quarterback Chad Pennington, and if he does not get better, the team may look to rookie Chad Henne after their Week 4 bye, according to Pro Football Weeekly.

Dolphins rookie quarterback Chad Henne will not be starting Week 3, and the job still belongs to Chad Pennington, according to the Miami Herald.

Coach Tony Sparano commented that he hasn't ruled rookie Chad Henne out of the competition for the starting quarterback job, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Sparano said, "Two, one, I'm not sure where they are right now (between Henne and Chad Pennington). It's hard to tell. Chad Pennington hasn't had a lot of work right now. But I feel really comfortable with Chad Henne and my evaluation of where he is. I think he's developed a bunch since the start of rookie camp. All of a sudden the game is starting to slow down, and he's playing a little bit more comfortable in the pocket, starting to see the field a little clearer and making some faster decisions out there in critical situations. Henne is really showing me great poise."

The early suggestions that the Dolphins would rotate all of their quarterback options through work with the first-team offense have been scrapped, according to Florida Sun Sentinel. For the past two days newly acquired veteran Chad Pennington has worked exclusively with the first team while rookie quarterback Chad Henne , who had an impressive exhibition showing on Saturday night, got the bulk of the work with the second team.

He's taken snaps with the first-team offense in practice (one month ago, in OTAs), but newly-drafted Michigan passer Chad Henne has just finalized the terms of his first NFL contract, sealing the deal with Miami and getting his arm on the field at training camp, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Chad Henne was the surprise starter under center on Saturday as he took snaps with the first team offense, according to the Sun Sentinel. Josh McCown and John Beck split reps with the second and third teams.

Chad Henne made some mental errors during the Dolphins' rookie camp, but he has made strides during minicamp. "He has not gotten lost. I thought he was going to and he hasn't," quarterbacks coach David Lee said in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I think if there's one thing that strikes me about this kid, one word, he's just unflappable. You chew him out, 'What's the next play.' He takes criticism, 'You got it Coach, give me another one.' There's no sense of throwing anybody else under the bus. There are no excuses with him. He's tough."

Chad Henne struggled in the final day of rookie mini-camp on Sunday, according to the Sun Sentinel. He seemed to be confused and overwhelmed, and he admitted that he didn't have a favorable practice, and at one point was told to run a lap after blowing an assignment. Henne said, "I forgot the snap count. I went on one instead of our second sound. I deserved it." Henne was overthrowing most of his receivers Sunday, but some of that had to be related with learning 150 pages of the playbook in four days and then trying to translate it on the field with rookie receivers he's never thrown to before. Henne added, "I was kind of inconsistent with my throws, missed some assignments, but other than I felt pretty good, just getting my feet wet. It's tough as a quarterback you have to know what everybody is doing, know your checks, where your progressions are, your footwork. Once I get back here again I'll feel more comfortable and do better."
May 4, 2008
There is going to be an open competition at quarterback this season, and rookie Chad Henne will get a fair shot at the starting job, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Henne said, "It's definitely different, especially at rookie camp, just going out there doing the best I can, learning the playbook. You never know what's going to happen. John's a great quarterback, and Josh McCown is here, so everybody's going to compete at their best and hopefully make each other better." Coach Tony Sporano said, "We have a quarterback competition. At the end of training camp we're going to find out who the best quarterback is. I was happy with what Chad did, especially from a mental standpoint. From a quarterback, it's all about what he does in the huddle. It's how he takes control. Chad managed the team fine at the line of scrimmage."

Michigan quarterback Chad Henne is expected to visit the Ravens today, according to the Carroll County Times. The team recently completed a visit with Deleware quarterback Joe Flacco as well.

Word out of Miami is that Michigan quarterback Chad Henne is emerging as the favorite to be the Dolphins’ first of two second-round selections in the 2008 NFL Draft, according to Pro Football Weekly. Henne has already had multiple meetings with team representatives, and more are scheduled. Boston College QB Matt Ryan remains in the mix for the No. 1 overall slot, but he’s losing momentum in favor of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long and Virginia defensive end Chris Long.
March 21, 2008
Michigan quarterback Chad Henne will workout for the Miami Dolphins early next week in Ann Arbor, Michigan, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The Dolphins held a private workout for Matt Ryan last week, so they appear to be doing their due diligence on the 2008 quarterback class. The team has two second-round draft picks, and could burn one of them on a quarterback. Other teams scheduled to meet with Henne next week: Atlanta, Seattle and Tampa Bay.
