Manager Eric Mangini has said that there will be an open competition at quarterback between Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington, but the team is really pulling for Clemens to win the job, according to the NY Daily News. The team drafted Clemens in the second round of the draft two years ago, and has high expectations for him, and also want to prove their assessment of his talent was right.

New York JetsÂ’ owner Woody Johnson has given head coach Eric Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum the often dreaded vote of confidence, according to ESPN. When the Jets threw more than $140 million at free agents this offseason, their expectations seemed clear: another four-win season would be intolerable. But Johnson said recently that Mangini and Tannenbaum would "absolutely" keep their jobs for 2009, regardless of how the coming season pans out.
