When asked if he was worried about his job he responded, "I'm not going to say I'm not, because I'm not playing good. I've just got to keep playing. Derek Anderson remains confident, yet realistic, about his Browns offense according to clevelandbrowns.com. "The more effective we are in the running game, it kind of opens up the passing game for us and vice versa," Anderson said. We're going to go out there today and continue to do that, just push right on through it."

September 1, 2008
Derek Anderson has been nursing a mild concussion but returned to practice Monday, according to the AP. After stretching, Anderson sprinted over to the far side of the field and worked with the first-team offense during the initial phases of practice. Coach Romeo Crennel said, "The doctors need to see that he can handle the sunlight, which is pretty bright out today, that he can handle the verbiage of the offense, be able to handle the checks and do the things that a quarterback has to do. If he can do those things and doesn’t have any headaches afterwards then chances are they will let him go."

April 2, 2008
General manager Phil Savage threw some ice water on the possibility of the Cleveland Browns trading up into the first day of the 2008 NFL Draft, according to Akron Beacon Journal. ''At least in my mind, I think we've operated that we've kind of shut the door on the first day of the draft,'' Savage said. The Browns do not have first-, second- or third-round picks as a result of trades for quarterback Brady Quinn and defensive tackles Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. Savage said the most exciting thing the Browns might do is trade up a couple of slots in the fourth round, though his track record does not totally dismiss the possibility of making a deal.
April 2, 2008
Romeo Crennel reiterated there is competition at every position, including quarterback, at this year's training camp, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. On the flip side, general manager Phil Savage clarified those remarks: "The reality is you don't give a guy $8 million and expect him to be in an open competition," Savage said of incumbent starter Derek Anderson. "He would have to play really poorly and Brady (Quinn) would have to play lights out (to beat him out)." Translation: It would make me look really bad if Brady Quinn was the starter in 2008, after I just handed a boatload of money to Derek Anderson.

Thus far the terms are undisclosed due to minor details that need to be completed on the contract. It looks like Brady Quinn will continue to collect splinters, at least for the immediate future.
February 28, 2008
Derek Anderson had better accept the Browns offer quickly, or the team will likely just let him go by not matching whatever offer he receives on the market, this according to a report on the AP. “If Derek wants to be a Brown and really wants to stay here in Cleveland and play with the players that are on our team, then he can do that rather easily,” GM Phil Savage said. “If he’s willing to take the walk out there, there’s got to be some indication there’s something at the end of the rainbow." If Anderson doesn't accept the team's offer, it appears that they will jut accept the first and third round picks that will come as compensation. Stay tuned.
February 28, 2008
The Cleveland Browns continue to negotiate a three-year contract with Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson, but general manager Phil Savage protected the team to a certain degree by giving the quarterback the first and third-round tender offer at $2.562 million, according to ESPN. February 25, 2008
John Czarnecki is reporting that the Browns and QB Derek Anderson are close on signing a 3-year contract for "big money" according to a report on Fox Sports. February 22, 2008
Derek Anderson and the Browns are still working on a contract extension as the NFL Combine approaches according to a report on the Cleveland Plains Dealer. "We could still put the tender on him and continue to talk," said GM Phil Savage. The team has until 4 PM on February 28th to decide what to do with Anderson because at that date and time they will have to tender him a one-year deal if a long-term contract cannot be worked out. This has dragged on a bit longer than many expected it would, so there is really no way to handicap how this will play out over the next week.
February 19, 2008
GM Phil Savage told the Plain Dealer on Tuesday that he's optimistic the team will sign quarterback Derek Anderson before he becomes a restricted free agent on Feb. 28. "Talks have been a little more frequent in recent days," Savage said in an e-mail response. "It seems that the three-year deal is becoming more the focus. February 10, 2008
Derek Anderson struggled in Sunday's Pro Bowl loss to the NFC. The Cleveland signal-caller was an inaccurate 10-of-26 for 103-yards, no touchdowns and one interception. It's just the Pro Bowl, but a more productive effort in any contest goes a long way when negotiating a new contract.
February 10, 2008
Derek Anderson and the Browns have not hit a dead end in negotiations over the QBs long-term future with the team despite reports to the contrary. "We've talked about a contract from anywhere from two years to seven years," GM Phil Savage said. "Primarily two-, three- and maybe even a four-year deal. They've talked about a six- or seven-year deal." Anderson simply has to be brought back after tossing the ball for 3,787 yards and 29 TDs in his first full season at the helm of the Browns offense, so look for the tricky negotiations to continue. Akron Beacon Journal
February 8, 2008
Browns General Manager Phil Savage told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he was in email negotiations with quarterback Derek Anderson are all signs are positive in discussions that include both short and long-term deals. He said a report that Anderson is asking for a five-year deal is inaccurate. "Generally, the focus of our discussions has been on a shorter [two- to three-year deal] or a longer [six- to seven-year contract]," said Savage. "Never has a five-year proposal been part of the conversation. " Savage said the Browns have been proposing deals of two, three or even four years, while Anderson's camp has been seeking the longer one. But talks have been steady he remains optimistic. If the Browns don't sign Anderson by Feb. 28, he becomes a restricted free agent.
February 7, 2008
Derek Anderson, who recently turned down a three-year $16 million contract offer from the Cleveland Browns, is reportedly looking for a longer deal in the five-year range, according to the Columbus Dispatch. January 1, 2008
Browns head coach Romeo Crennel says that Derek Anderson is currently his starting quarterback heading into 2008, but the club will also listen to offers for the restricted free agent. "If anybody's interested in him, we'll just have to see how it goes," Crennel tells the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "Sometimes people can make you an offer and you can say, 'No, I think I'm going to stick with what I've got.' Sometimes they make you an offer and you say, 'Oooh!' So we'll see how it goes."
