ProFootballTalk.com reports that league sources are reporting that the Bengals plan to release linebacker Odell Thurman on Monday. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman remains on a timetable of learning "prior to training camp" whether he will be re-instated from a two-year league suspension for violating its substance abuse policy, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I haven't gotten any update in a couple of weeks," Goodell said when asked about Thurman. "He is going through the (offseason strength) program. I am encouraged.” Thurman has reportedly been working hard, and keeping his nose clean. If he stays on the straight and narrow, it’s looking favorable for his suspension to be lifted in the next few months.
February 14, 2008
Odell Thurman continues to work out and has daily contact with Cincinnati Bengals HC Marvin Lewis, according to cincinnati.com. "I see Odell daily," Lewis said Wednesday. "I think he is doing well, he's working extremely hard. He still has some hurdles to cross in terms of his league requirements. It gives him something to hang his hat on and look forward to.” Thurman, 25, has served a two-year suspension for repeated violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The league permitted him to begin working out with his teammates last month, which is a positive indicator that Thurman will likely be reinstated by the league if he can stay sober. Cincinnati had a rash of injuries at the linebacker position last season, so they could certainly utilize his services.
