| February 6, 2008 The 49ers have reached an agreement with quarterback Shaun Hill on a three-year contract, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Hill was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of February. "It's very exciting to be a Niner for another three years and I appreciate the opportunity they're giving me," Hill said. The deal is believed to be worth approximately $2 million a year with playing-time bonuses that could further compensate Hill if he were to win the starting job. If he's capable of playing anywhere near as well for a long period of time as he did down the stretch last year, Hill could legitimately beat out Alex Smith to be the 49ers' starting quarterback in 2008. He's drawn some comparisons to Rams quarterback Marc Bulger. |

The 49ers are kind enough to be moving quickly on this, and that's appreciated. I think it's a conducive environment because both sides like each other. Now, how do we quantify that value?" Expect to see Lattinville and the 49ers quantify a value before Hill can hit the open market. It is becoming increasingly clear that Shaun will have a legitimate chance to win the starting job in training camp. |
