Player Notes
December 29, 2007
Rudi Johnson will miss his second straight game Sunday. He's been ruled out due to his ailing hamstring injury, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. It'll be the fifth contest missed by Johnson in what has been a complete bust of a season. Kenny Watson will handle most of the workload again in Johnson's absence.
December 25, 2007
The Bengals are hoping that Rudi Johnson (hamstring) will be able to play in Week 17, the Cincinnati Enquirer notes. Johnson did not play in Week 16 and has missed four total games on the season.
December 23, 2007
As expected, Rudi Johnson is inactive for Sunday’s game against Cleveland because of his ailing hamstring. Kenny Watson will get the start.
December 22, 2007
Rudi Johnson will not play against the Browns on Sunday due to his ailing hamstring. "He hasn't been able to practice, so he can't play," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer. Kenny Watson should start in place of Johnson, but DeDe Dorsey should figure into the mix.
December 21, 2007
Rudi Johnson (hamstring) hasn't practiced yet this week, making it very likely that Kenny Watson will have to carry the load against Cleveland.
November 25, 2007
Rudi Johnson split the duties with Kenny Watson last week, but he was in workhorse mode in Week 12, carrying the ball 25 times for 88 yards and a TD. Watson also scored but had just 17 yards on four carries, while DeDe Dorsey gained 42 yards on five totes.
November 18, 2007
Rudi Johnson received 22 carries to Kenny Watson's nine totes last week, but Week 11 was a different story. Rudi carried the rock eight times for just 25 yards, while Watson carried it nine times for 45 yards while also adding eight catches for 50 yards. Both Cincy backs' values will be limited so long as they share the duties so evenly.
November 3, 2007
Rudi Johnson is expected to return to action on Sunday, though it's not clear if he or Kenny Watson will start, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Regardless, both Johnson and Watson will split the workload against the Bills, so it's possible neither will have a good fantasy day.
November 1, 2007
Rudi Johnson , who had more missed games (three) than carries (two) in the month of October, returned to practice Wednesday. “I’m going to go out and play just like I normally play,” Johnson told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “That’s why I made sure I was going to come back 100 percent before I stepped onto the field…. My leg is fine."
October 28, 2007
Rudi Johnson is once again inactive with his nagging hamstring injury. Kenny Watson will start in his place.
October 26, 2007
The Bengals have listed Rudi Johnson as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the rival Steelers. The hamstring injury he sustained has kept him out for nearly the entire month of October.
October 25, 2007
Rudi Johnson missed a second consecutive practice, sitting out Thursday's session due to the hamstring injury that has limited him to just two carries in the month of October. Kenny Watson appears in line for another start, though this week's matchup with the Steelers is hardly as fantasy-friendly as last week's tilt with the Jets.
October 20, 2007
The Bengals practiced again Friday without having Rudi Johnson in the mix. He's listed as doubtful for Sunday's game due to his strained hamstring, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Although coach Marvin Lewis said that Johnson would be a game-time decision, it will be tough to use him as a fantasy option. Last week, he mustered just eight yards on four carries. Look for Kenny Watson to handle the bulk of the workload again in Week 7.
October 19, 2007
Rudi Johnson (hamstring) was out of practice Thursday for the second straight day. It's hard to expect much from Johnson against the Jets this weekend, unless he has a fantastic day of work Friday.
October 14, 2007
Rudi Johnson was active for the Bengals on Sunday, but he was a non-factor, carrying just four times for eight yards. Kenny Watson got the start, collecting 68 yards on 13 carries. Rudi should return to the starting role once the Bengals feel he's back to 100 percent, but it's unclear when that'll be.
October 13, 2007
Rudi Johnson was able to practice on Friday. After the session, coach Marvin Lewis said that Johnson is healthy, but both Johnson and Kenny Watson will get carries on Sunday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. So the good news is that Johnson is ready to return from his hamstring injury. But the bad news is the tandem work with Watson could limit Johnson's fantasy value, depending on exactly how many carries Watson takes.
October 11, 2007
Rudi Johnson missed a second consecutive day of practice, sitting out Thursday's session due to the hamstring injury he suffered in week three. The Bengals official web site indicated that it appears as if Kenny Watson will make his second straight start in place of Johnson. Johnson missed the Bengals' loss to New England in week four, but it was assumed the bye week would give him enough time to recover. Now, Rudi owners need to have Watson on stand-by.
October 10, 2007
Rudi Johnson was not in uniform at the beginning of Wednesday's practice, according to the Bengals' official web site. He missed the team's previous game, a week four loss to the Patriots, with a hamstring injury. Johnson owners were hoping to get their star runner back this week, but at present his status is still up in the air. Those playing backup running back bingo should hold their cards, especially if they have Kenny Watson on their roster.
October 9, 2007
The Bengals returned to practice following their bye week but Rudi Johnson did not join them, instead watching from the sidelines while nursing a hamstring injury. Johnson had no comment for the media following his non-practice, and head coach Marvin Lewis would only offer a "We'll see" when asked about the availability of his injured starters for week six, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Johnson sat out the Bengals' week four loss to the Patriots, ending a streak of 64 consecutive games played. Kenny Watson filled in for him and would do the same should Rudi be unable to answer the call in week six.
September 27, 2007
If the Bengals are going to be the first team to beat the Patriots this season, they will have to do so without their starting tailback. The club classified Rudi Johnson as "out" on their Thursday injury report because of the hamstring ailment which knocked him out of last week's game. The team's website reports that while nothing is official, this is a clear indication he most likely won't suit up for the first time in 64 games. Players very rarely suit up after being listed as "out" on the injury report, so Johnson's fantasy owners need to be making other plans for this week. Kenny Watson is going to start in Rudi's place.
September 26, 2007
Rudi Johnson (hamstring) appears to be very questionable for Monday's game with New England, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. There was no official injury report from the Bengals Tuesday, but during a news conference Marvin Lewis said, "the guys who were banged up in the Seattle game who we're unsure about would be Caleb Miller and Rudi Johnson." For insurance, the club signed DeDe Dorsey earlier in the week.
September 23, 2007
Bengals running back Rudi Johnson suffered a hamstring injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, according to the team's website. Kenny Watson took over as the primary back and scored a touchdown on an eight yard run.
August 28, 2007
Rudi Johnson has worked on his pass catching in hopes of adding another dimension to his game. “I want to improve my game,” Johnson told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “That’s the main thing, just trying to find ways to get better. Every chance I get, I go over with the quarterbacks and catch extra passes. I want them to know if they can’t find anything downfield, I will be there.”
