The Browns want to bring Jamal Lewis back for next season. "[Browns General Manager] Phil Savage and this organization, they'll talk to my agent, and if there's anything, they'll talk to me," said Lewis, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "So that's it." Lewis, who has racked up 1176 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns, worked on a one-year deal this season and will be an unrestricted free agent in March. That means he can sign with any team, so we'll have to wait and see if the Browns can keep him in the fold.

Jamal Lewis admitted Friday that he wasn't sure if his strained foot had healed enough to allow him to suit up for Sunday's game. "I'll know more on Sun day morning," he said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Of course, I want to, but let's see how the foot feels. I'll just play it by ear. I'll wake up on Sunday, and it might be killing me. I'll wake up on Sunday, and it might feel great. We'll see how it goes." He got in some limited practice this week and is listed as questionable, but it looks like a decision won't come until the game nears. Jason Wright would start again if Lewis is out.

October 23, 2007
Running back Jamal Lewis was idle on Monday when the Browns returned to practice following their week seven bye, reported the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He has been sidelined by a sprained foot suffered in week five. Lewis has said he expects to play this weekend against the Rams.
October 18, 2007
Jamal Lewis should be fine to return from his foot injury after the Browns’ bye in week seven. “It’s nothing serious, just something that needed a little time,” Lewis told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “The bye gives me two weeks and that helps. If it was up to me, I probably would’ve played [against Miami in week six], but maybe I would’ve wound up missing more games. It could’ve gotten worse. But the doctors and trainers sat me down and said resting was the best thing to do.”
October 14, 2007
Browns running back Jamal Lewis will not play on Sunday because of his sprained right foot, the AP reported. Jason Wright will make the start against Miami in his place.
October 13, 2007
Jamal Lewis has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, the team's official web site reports. Lewis injured his right foot in Week 5 and did not practice this week. Jason Wright will start in his place and should be a decent fantasy play.
October 13, 2007
Jamal Lewis again did not practice on Friday. In fact, his injured foot has been in a walking boot all week, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. At best, Lewis will be a game-time call Sunday. If he sits, Jason Wright would start for the Browns.
October 12, 2007
Jamal Lewis (foot) missed his second straight practice Thursday, and according to the team's official site, he'll be a game-time decision for Sunday's match with Miami. Jason Wright would step in Sunday if Lewis is unable to go.
October 10, 2007
Jamal Lewis, who left the Browns' week five loss to the Patriots after one carry, is wearing a protective boot on his strained left foot. "He's working to get back," head coach Romeo Crennel told the Browns' official web site. "If he can play, he's going to play. We'll take it day to day, and we'll see how it does. Probably later in the week we'll know more." With Lewis in a boot, Jason Wright is in line to receive the bulk of the carries for the Browns in this week's matchup with the Dolphins, who are allowing 174 rushing yards per game.
October 9, 2007
The status of running back Jamal Lewis for the Browns' Week 6 game is uncertain. "He has a strained foot and X-rays were negative," head coach Romeo Crennel told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "We'll see as the week goes on what his availability will be." Jason Wright would start against the Dolphins should Lewis be unavailable, with Jerome Harrison serving as the backup.
October 8, 2007
Jamal Lewis injured his right foot on the Browns' first play from scrimmage Sunday. X-rays were negative, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It happened at the beginning of the run," said Lewis. "I kind of caught my foot in the turf. I thought I'd be able to go back in, but they didn't want me to do something crazy and miss the rest of the season." An MRI Monday should give us a better idea of his status for the Browns' next game, but Jason Wright should get the bulk of carries if Lewis misses the contest.

"At this point, I'm less optimistic than I was last week," Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, said yesterday about his client re-signing.

"Jamal has been a significant contributor to us in the last seven seasons. It's our hope to have him back with the Ravens."
