Speedy Claxton is taking a risk by playing in the Hawks free agent mini-camp as he attempts to reestablish himself as an NBA caliber player, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "I'm doing this for me, trying to check and see how my knee feels and how I can play and how I can do on consecutive days."

Speedy Claxton's season is over before it even began. He was told this week that he'll require microfracture surgery if he wants to try to extend his basketball career, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Claxton said he isn't sure what he's going to do. "This is something you have to think through before doing anything one way or the other," Claxton said. Claxton had yet to play this season due to his ailing knee, and it looks like he won't be back for quite some time, if he doesn't retire.

Hawks guard Speedy Claxton has missed the Hawks’ last two preseason games and won’t play again on Thursday because of soreness in his right knee. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Claxton has been in Vancouver, British Columbia where he was getting a consultation on his knee, which isn’t the same one he had surgery on in June which cost him 40 games last season. “The MRI came back clean, so I don’t know what the severity of his injury might be,” coach Mike Woodson told the paper. “But we have to move on. We can’t wait.”
