President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said, "Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular-seasons. However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead our team."
May 30, 2008 Richard Hamilton battled through his elbow ailment to score 21 points in Friday's 89-81 loss to Boston in Game 6. He also chipped in one rebound, four assists, and two blocks.

Hamilton is averaging 21.7 points, seven more points than any teammate in the playoffs.
