Golden State point guard played his first game for the Warriors on Friday, but did not score, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He was inactive for the first two games of the year for being too heavy.
October 29, 2008
Point guard Marcus Williams is firmly entrenched in Golden State coach Don Nelson's doghouse for his poor defensive play and inability to run the offense, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
October 26, 2008
Marcus Williams is "the last of the point guards in the pecking order," coach Don Nelson told the Contra Costa Times. DaMarcus Nelson is expected to start on Wednesday, and Williams is also behind Stephen Jackson.
October 21, 2008
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Marcus Williams has fallen out of favor with coach Don Nelson. "I expected more, and we haven't seen it yet, and it's getting late," coach Don Nelson said Monday. The assessment happened to come after what Nelson called Williams' best practice to date, and it's clear that the stocky guard will need to wow the Warriors in order to dent the rotation.
October 1, 2008
The AP reports that coach Don Nelson said of the starting point guard position, "(With Monta Ellis injured) It’s C.J. (Watson)’s job now to lose.” Marcus Williams and Dan Dickau are the other point guards in camp.
September 24, 2008
The Contra Costa Times reports that Marcus Williams will have to battle C.J. Watson for the starting point guard job for the Warriors throughout the preseason.
September 16, 2008
The Mercury News reports that point guard Marcus Williams "is looking very, very good." Training camp is still a week away, but it's a good sign to see the new Warrior already in workouts.
August 28, 2008
With Monta Ellis out following ankle surgery, Marcus Williams could step into a starting role for the Warriors. "Marcus is more of a pass-first point guard (than Ellis). If at some point he thought he didn't get a chance (in New Jersey), he's going to get a chance now," vice president Chris Mullin tells the San Francisco Chronicle.
July 22, 2008
Marcus Williams has been dealt from the Nets to the Warriors in exchange for a future first round draft pick, according to the AP.
July 10, 2008
Reports have come forth indicating the Nets are actively shopping guard Marcus Williams and have had talks with Chicago and Denver, centered around deals involving Andres Nocioni for the Bulls and Marcus Camby for Denver, according to the Bergen Record.
February 26, 2008
Marcus Williams dished out eight assists Tuesday to go with 10 points and two treys. He had 13 dimes in his last game and has averaged two treys over his past four contests. He makes for a nice short-term pickup, as he should continue to produce well until Devin Harris is ready to run the Nets' offense.
February 24, 2008
Marcus Williams has played well since the departure of Jason Kidd. Inheriting the role of point guard following the trade with Dallas, Williams had another strong game with a career-high 13 assists to go along with eight points and seven rebounds as the Nets beat the Indiana Pacers 102-91 on Saturday night. The Nets are 2-1 since dealing Kidd, and Williams played well in both victories.
February 20, 2008
The Nets won't have new acquisition Devin Harris for a few weeks, but one man's loss is another man's gain. The man gaining is Marcus Williams, who poured in a season-high 25 points Wednesday to go along with four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Williams will get plenty of playing time over the next several games and would be a nice pickup for anyone looking for help at the guard position. It's not out of the question that he could continue to start even when Harris returns. That's assuming he has more nights like this one.
