Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa underwent surgery on his left leg on Tuesday and will have to stay off it for at least 10 weeks, the AP reported. Garbajosa was placed on the injured list on November 20 after team doctors found “something unusual” in an MRI. Garbajosa suffered a broken bone in his lower leg and dislocated his ankle back in March, ending his rookie season.

Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa is out indefinitely as he will have surgery on his left ankle. Garbajosa dislocated that same ankle and broke his leg last March while trying to block a shot. He was going to rehab until 2007 training camp, but he convinced the Raptors to let him play for Spain in the European Basketball Championships in Madrid last summer. His injury never fully healed and doctors said that they found “something unusual” in his latest MRI.

Reports from Spain Saturday stated that Jorge Garbajosa was facing season-ending ankle surgery. However, the Raps have denied that at this point, according to the Toronto Star. "We have arranged for Jorge to consult with a specialist in Baltimore on Monday," the team said in a statement. "Future treatment and therapy options remain undetermined at this point." Nonetheless, it sounds like Garbo has a serious problem with the broken leg and injured ankle he sustained last March, and it may be a long time until we see him in games again.

Jorge Garbajosa will lace up and play for Spain in the Eurobasket 2007 tournament in Madrid, which begins on Monday, according to the Toronto Star. While it's a good sign that he's recovered enough from the gruesome broken ankle that ended his rookie season early, the Raptors and fantasy owners would prefer he not compete until the NBA season gets underway. He's risking a setback by playing, so let's all cross our fingers and hope he makes it through unscathed.
