Bobcats forward Sean May will miss the rest of the season as he will have microfracture surgery to repair his right knee. This is the same knee that has been troubling May throughout his entire pro career, in which he has played only 58 of a possible 164 games since he was drafted in 2005. May averaged 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds last season.

Bobcats forward Sean May missed the start of training camp on Tuesday because he was in New York seeing a knee specialist, the AP reported. He is scheduled to see another doctor in Alabama on Wednesday, and his timetable after that is unknown. May has played in only 58 of 164 games in his first two seasons because of right knee pain. “Before he goes to the next step of really having to push it for training camp, everybody just wants to make sure that the knee is healthy enough to do that,” coach Sam Vincent said.

Sean May played in only 35 games last year because of a knee injury, but has performed so well recently that he might not be limited in training camp, the Charlotte Observer reported. May has been cleared for 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 drills, but not full-scale scrimmages.

Sean May returned to action for the Bobcats Saturday after missing 20 games with a bruised knee, the AP reports. He played 22 minutes off the bench, finishing with 13 points and three rebounds. "I still got some time before I get some time before I get my rhythm back and my timing back," May said. "I played 22 minutes out there and it was a little sore at times. But toward the end, once the game got close I sort of forgot about it."

That will give him some extra rest over the All-Star break, but coach Bernie Bickerstaff wants May to toughen up, deal with the pain and get back on the court.
