Yao Ming was cut on the face Sunday against Detroit and didn't play the last 15 minutes, the AP reports. It's hard to imagine this keeping him out for any significant period of time, but we'll see how the team addresses it Monday.

Rockets center Yao Ming still has a slightly torn labrum in his right shoulder, but the problem is not a concern and Yao still passed his physical after arriving late to training camp, the Houston Chronicle reported. Yao developed soreness in the shoulder last season and the tear was found, but the team determined Yao could better treat the shoulder with strengthening and stretching exercises rather than surgery.

Rocekts center Yao Ming will miss media day and the first two days of practice to appear at the opening ceremonies of the 2007 Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, the Houston Chronicle reported. Yao will be fined for missing the highly priority media day and the practices, although the amount was not disclosed.

Rockets center Yao Ming is engaged to marry his girlfriend of nearly eight years in China this summer. The Houston Chronicle reported the engagement to former Chinese National Team player Ye Li, who met Yao in 1999 when he was playing for the Shanghai Sharks.

Rockets center Yao Ming will have a "small surgery" on a toe, hoping to prevent a troublesome toenail from growing back, the Houston Chronicle reported. Yao told the paper he only expected the procedure to keep him from working out for "a couple weeks." Yao also said he has had discussions with former Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon about working together this summer. He will also spend time training with the Chinese national team.

Yao Ming rested his back injury on Friday, but he was back in action against the Kings on Sunday, according to the AP. He had 18 points in his return. Ming is still recovering from his injury, and he spent most of the fourth quarter on the bench.

Yao Ming, who missed Friday's game with a sore back, is questionable for Sunday's contest, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I don't remember exactly when I got hurt," Yao said. "Maybe in the last game somebody hit me in my back and I wasn't paying attention in the game. (Thursday) was a day off and (Friday) I came into the shootaround and when I started full-speed running, my back struggled."

Yao Ming practiced with the Rockets Thursday for the first time since he fractured his right tibia Dec. 23, the Houston Chronicle reports. It's not clear when he'll be cleared for game action; at this point he's essentially day-to-day. "It was hard, a first day, but it was better than I thought," Yao said. "Last time, I had a toenail removed. I missed like one week. I came back and felt like everything went away — no conditioning, no skill or anything. Today felt much better than that day. I'm another step closer to playing."

The Rockets don't expect Yao Ming to return to action until mid/late March, according to the Houston Chronicle. Yao has been working out with a bulky brace to protect his broken leg. "He has to wear this cumbersome brace. He feels that's a huge issue to his mobility, to his jumping, to his natural running gait," said coach Jeff Van Gundy.

Yao Ming had an MRI Wednesday and while the team is encouraged with the results, he might not be ready to play in two weeks as he had hoped, the Houston Chronicle reports. Yao is coming back from a broken leg. "His progress has been exceptionally good so far," team physician Tom Clanton said. "It's been right on track, and he's had no setbacks. You don't want to put somebody into a position there is a risk of injury, and one of the things that's been shown to be directly related to sports injuries is failure to completely rehabilitate from an injury such as this. We're going along step by step and making sure he meets the goals he sets."

Yao Ming went through the shooting and offensive walkthrough part of the Rockets' practice on Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. "We'll find out more (today after an MRI)," Yao said. "I'm not 100 percent who I was before I got the injury. I know myself. I think it will take some time, but when I get to play, I will get back to that level."

He has been permitted to do "straight-ahead" conditioning and listed "shooting, post moves and learning on tape" as his current regimen.
