June 2, 2008
Manager Dave Trembley hasn't named a starter for Tuesday's game against the Twins, but it won't be Steve Trachsel, the Baltimore Sun reports. The veteran right-hander will remain in the bullpen.
May 30, 2008
Manager Dave Trembley is keeping quiet regarding Steve Trachsel's status in the Orioles' rotation, according to the AP. Trembley isn't ready to put Trachsel back in the rotation, even though there is a spot open for Tuesday against the Twins. Trachsel hasn't pitched in a week, and Trembley said, "I have some options. It depends on what I do in these first two games of this series (against Boston). I’ll probably have a decision after the game tomorrow or first thing Sunday." Matt Albers is believed to be a possibility for Tuesday's start.
May 18, 2008
Steve Trachsel, who has had his last two starts skipped as the result of multiple off days, knows he will start one of the team's two games against the Rays this weekend, according to the Baltimore Sun.
May 14, 2008
Due to Monday's off-day, the Orioles will take the opportunity to skip Steve Trachsel in the rotation. Jeremy Guthrie started on Tuesday, and he'll be followed by Daniel Cabrera, Garrett Olson, and Brian Burres, the Baltimore Sun notes.
May 9, 2008
Steve Trachsel , who was winless in his last five starts, gave up two runs and five hits in 5.1 innings as the O's beat the Royals for the 11th straight time.
May 6, 2008
The Orioles need to make a call regarding struggling starter Steve Trachsel, according to the Baltimore Sun. The 37-year old is 1-4 with a 7.42 ERA and 1.95 WHIP over 26.2 innings, with 19 walks. Trachsel said, "I'm not real happy. I don't know what else to say. I just haven't been getting the job done lately."
April 15, 2008
Steve Trachsel gave up five runs, five hits and three walks in 2.1 ugly innings. The O's right-hander retired only five of 14 batters; the other two outs occurred on attempted steals.
April 15, 2008
Steve Trachsel will take the hill against Toronto tonight, a team he is yet to lose to, according to MLB.com. Trachsel is 6-0 against Toronto over his career, with a 3.12 ERA in seven starts.
April 10, 2008
Steve Trachsel gave up three runs and five hits over 6.1 innings in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Rangers. The 37-year-old right-hander struck out two and walked four in his effort.
April 9, 2008
The Orioles have won six games in a row, and Steve Trachsel will look to stretch the streak to seven when he takes the hill against Texas tonight, according to MLB.com. He is off to a solid 1-0 start with a 3.18 ERA, but remains an unstable fantasy prospect.
April 3, 2008
The Orioles will keep their rotation in order after Thursday's rainout, according to the AP. Steve Trachsel will now start Friday against the Mariners, with everyone else simply moving back a day. It doesn't really matter who Trachsel faces. He's a sketchy fantasy play, at best, no matter what.
March 27, 2008
The Orioles have purchased Steve Trachsel's contract, according to MLB.com. He will provide depth and experience to a young Baltimore pitching staff, but his fantasy value is limited.
March 27, 2008
Steve Trachsel was solid over six innings of work against Washington on Thursday as he only allowed one run on four hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. He lowered his spring ERA to 5.21 as he continues to compete for a spot on the final roster.
March 27, 2008
Steve Trachsel pitched well on Thursday, his final tune up before beginning the season as the O's No. 4 starter. The veteran right-hander pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one run, one walk and striking out two. This is about as good as it will get with Trachsel. He won't strike out too many batters and giving up one run in six innings equates to a huge success.
March 15, 2008
Steve Trachsel had another unstable outing on the mound on Saturday (in a 7-6 loss to Florida) as he allowed five runs on six hits over four innings of work. He could still land a spot in the Orioles' rotation, but holds very little fantasy value.
February 11, 2008
The Orioles signed veteran right-hander Steve Trachsel to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Monday, according to the AP. Trachsel started last season with the Orioles and went 6-8 with a 4.48 ERA in 25 starts before being dealt to the Cubs on Aug. 31 for infielder Scott Moore and righthander Rocky Cherry, but the deal did not work out for the Cubs - as Trachsel went 1-3 with an 8.31 ERA in four starts for Chicago. Fantasy owners should keep their distance from a guy who had 20 more walks than strikeouts last year.
February 10, 2008
The Orioles want to bring in at least one veteran starter to eat innings and to offer insurance so they won't have to rely so heavily on unproven youngsters, according to the Baltimore Sun. The free-agent market is thin. Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia are too risky for health reasons. Kyle Lohse and Livan Hernandez are probably too expensive. Jeff Weaver and David Wells might carry too much baggage. That leaves Josh Fogg and Steve Trachsel as the most likely candidates. Trachsel threw 141 innings for the O's in '07 walking 69 and striking out only 45.
