The Royals are going to give pitcher Luke Hochevar a cup of coffee this September. Hochevar, the first overall selection in the 2006 draft, is expected to be a reliever this month, but his future is in the rotation. Were all looking at this the same way, manager Buddy Bell told the Kansas City Star. This kid has a chance to compete next spring for our rotation. If thats the case, then he should be here. Top prospect Luke Hochevar was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, according to the Royals' official website. Hochevar, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, was 3-6 with a 4.69 ERA at Double-A Wichita. He led the Texas League with 94 strikeouts in 94 innings. | June 21, 2007
With Scott Elarton being placed on the disabled list Wednesday, the Royals have an unclaimed spot in their rotation. Top prospect Luke Hochevar is on the 40-man roster and has been discussed as a possibility for a spot start or two, but he is just 3-6 with a 4.63 ERA at Double-A Wichita and the Royals would rather let him continue to refine his delivery in the minors. The top two candidates currently with the club are starters-turned-relievers Zack Grienke and Joakim Soria, but manager Buddy Bell told the teams official website he doesnt want to mess too much with his bullpen, which has been a strong point this year.
