Luke Hochevar will makes his first big league start in Sunday's finale for the Royals. "I’m excited," he said, according to the KC Star. "It’s a chance to go out and start and face one of the best teams in baseball. It’ll be a lot of fun." Hochevar, the first overall selection in the 2006 draft, will face the Indians.

The Royals are going to give pitcher Luke Hochevar a cup of coffee this September. Hochevar, the first overall selection in the 2006 draft, is expected to be a reliever this month, but his future is in the rotation. “We’re all looking at this the same way,” manager Buddy Bell told the Kansas City Star. “This kid has a chance to compete next spring for our rotation. If that’s the case, then he should be here. He should gain some experience even if he just pitches a couple of innings. It will help him to be up here in this type of environment.”

Top prospect Luke Hochevar was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, according to the Royals' official website. Hochevar, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, was 3-6 with a 4.69 ERA at Double-A Wichita. He led the Texas League with 94 strikeouts in 94 innings.

With Scott Elarton being placed on the disabled list Wednesday, the Royals have an unclaimed spot in their rotation. Top prospect Luke Hochevar is on the 40-man roster and has been discussed as a possibility for a spot start or two, but he is just 3-6 with a 4.63 ERA at Double-A Wichita and the Royals would rather let him continue to refine his delivery in the minors. The top two candidates currently with the club are starters-turned-relievers Zack Grienke and Joakim Soria, but manager Buddy Bell told the team’s official website he doesn’t want to mess too much with his bullpen, which has been a strong point this year. Other candidates include Triple-A hurlers Tyler Lumsden and Billy Buckner.
