Player Notes
December 11, 2007
There is no Johan Santana trade imminent, but Jacoby Ellsbury is reportedly the center piece the Twins are most seriously considering, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The Red Sox have two offers on the table, one that involves Ellsbury, and one that involves Jon Lester. It still seems likely the Sox will be the club that ultimately comes away with Santana, but there's still time for the Angels or Yankees to get back into the mix.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports the Red Sox are willing to include Jacoby Ellsbury in a deal for Minnesota's Johan Santana. However, if they include Ellsbury in the package, they're unlikely to part with either Clay Buchholz or Jon Lester. The Yankees reportedly have an offer on the table that includes Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and a third player to be determined, so the Twins will have some options.
October 27, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury went 4-for-5 with three doubles in Saturday's Game 3 World Series victory over the Rockies. Ellsbury is now hitting .417 in the series, and it's not hard to see that he's ready for a full-time spot next year if the Red Sox can clear room for him.
October 23, 2007
With Coco Crisp still limited due to a leg injury, Jacoby Ellsbury will start in center field for the Red Sox in Game 1 of the World Series. Should Ellsbury play well, it wouldn't be a surprise if he continued to start, even if Crisp is back at 100 percent.
September 28, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury left Thursday's contest with cramping in his right calf, according to the Boston Herald. "It happened for a couple of innings. One inning he was late going out because it wasn't able to loosen up," said manager Terry Francona. "He couldn't get it to loosen up so we had to make a move." Ellsbury's availability for tonight's game is unknown.
September 11, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, including a homer, in Tuesday's wild 16-10 victory over Tampa Bay. The good-looking rookie now has an 11-game hitting streak and a .373 average.
September 2, 2007
The Red Sox recalled Jacoby Ellsbury from the minors on Saturday. One of Boston's top prospects, he may not see a ton of action over the final month of the season, but it's possible he could steal a handful of bases, making him worth a look in AL-only play. Ellsbury has hit a combined .326 with 41 steals in 103 games between Double- and Triple-A.
July 6, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury has returned from whence he came. The Red Sox optioned him to Triple-A after Thursday's game. Ellsbury is the future at center field for the Red Sox and those in keeper leagues should be targeting him for future seasons because of his potential for large quantities of stolen bases.
July 4, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury will likely remain with the major league club through the All-Star break, according to the Boston Herald. Unfortunately the speedy Ellsbury won’t see too many at-bats now that Coco Crisp’s wrist is feeling better.
July 1, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury was recalled from Triple-A Saturday and started against Texas, going 1-for-4. He appears to be a short-term fix for the Red Sox while Coco Crisp deals with a sore thumb. Ellsbury tore up Double-A this for three weeks this year (.452 average), then moved to Triple-A where he's been solid (.277 average, 21 steals). The 23-year-old is considered Boston's center fielder of the future.
May 4, 2007
The Red Sox promoted Jacoby Ellsbury from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday night, the Portland Press Herald reports. Ellsbury, the team's top prospect, was hitting .452-0-13-17-8 at Double-A.
April 29, 2007
Jacoby Ellsbury is hitting .455 with Double-A Portland, the Boston Globe reports. He's also working on a 13-game hitting streak, and going back to last Aug. 27, he's hit safely in 22 straight regular-season games.
