The Reds top priority for the off-season is to acquire a productive right-handed hitter, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. They already do have one on their roster with Micah Owings, who is a career .319 hitter and registers an RBI in every 5.5 at-bats.

Owings got a quick hook in the loss, but all in all, most of the hits he surrendered were singles. Micah Owings allowed four runs in 5.1 innings to lower his spring ERA to 9.77, this according to the AP. “No, I’m not concerned, and I don’t think anybody should be concerned,” Owings said. “The minute you start to get concerned, you start to press. I’m just going to take it each outing, each game, each pitch, and focus on that. I’m not going to start thinking too much.” Count us as being in the concerned camp. If Owings can put it back together he figures to be about as good a fifth starter as there is in the National League but after a solid rookie season his work thus far has been far from encouraging.

"You like to see results every time," manager Bob Melvin said, according to the Arizona Republic. "Some days it's just not going to happen. Right now, he's going through a little bit of a funk as far as his command." Owings has allowed 12 hits, eight walks and eight earned runs in just 6 1/3 innings this spring, so clearly the Diamondbacks need to see him step things up soon in preparation for the beginning of the regular season.

He has had such an issue in the past. “Yeah, that’s why I’m not too concerned about it,” Owings tells the Arizona Republic. “(I’ve felt it) from time to time. I think pitchers go through it from time to time, whether it’s early, middle or late in the season.” He is day-to-day.

Micah Owings is working on a new pitch this spring, a changeup, and so he isn't overly concerned with the results at this point. “He’s always tinkering, trying to get a little bit better,” manager Bob Melvin said in a report on the AP. “Today he was focusing on his changeup. He probably threw several more, especially in different counts, than you normally see him.” Owings figures to be a solid gamble in the late rounds if he can continue to keep his walks down (2.95 BB/9) and up his K/9 up a bit (6.25).
