Mike Pelfrey, who was recalled by the Mets on Saturday when rosters expanded, tossed six strong innings against the Braves, allowing one run on one hit and three walks. With Pedro Martinez set to return to the rotation this week, Pelfrey may not receive another start.

The Mets optioned Mike Pelfrey to Triple-A New Orleans Sunday. Pelfrey was recalled on Saturday to start the second half of a day/night doubleheader, according to Sports Network. He received a no decision after giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings. David Newhan was recalled from New Orleans to take Pelfrey's spot on the roster.

Mike Pelfrey made the first relief appearance of his career on Friday night. It's something he might be doing more often, as he's not going to start Monday's game, according to the New York Daily News. Pelfrey is 0-7 as a starter this season, so moving to the bullpen wouldn't be surprising. Jorge Sosa should be healthy enough to start Monday's game in place of Pelfrey.

The Mets sent Mike Pelfrey down to Triple-A on Sunday, according to the AP. He struggled in his six starts with the club this year, holding a 6.53 ERA. "It's a business," Pelfrey said. "I didn't win any games. You have to win to be here. Right now I think it's for the best." It's unclear who will replace Pelfrey in the rotation, but manager Willie Randolph mentioned Jason Vargas and Aaron Sele as possibilities.

Mike Pelfrey struggled with his control last night with Single-A St. Lucie, according to the New York Daily News. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings. "I threw a lot more changeups and I threw a lot more sliders than I usually would," Pelfrey told the Port St. Lucie News "I'm just trying to get a feel for it and work to execute pitches. It was good actually getting into it. Here it's a lot different. Guys are swinging away. It's kind of hard. ... It felt like it's really been a while since I've been out there. It took me a little while to find my rhythm and get back into it, but overall I felt good." Pelfrey is slated to join the Mets rotation on Friday against the Nationals.

Obviously, he has good stuff, but he's worked hard to execute, for the most part, what we wanted him to do this spring." Pelfrey posted a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings this spring, albeit with just five strikeouts.
