Mike Pelfrey said his ailing back didn't feel great when he threw a bullpen session on Saturday, according to the New York Daily News. It's possible that he won't return to action this season. "They talked about maybe one inning at the very end," said Pelfrey.

Although Mike Pelfrey rejoined the Mets yesterday, he won't take part in a game for a while and likely would only be used in relief, according to the New York Daily News. He hasn't pitched since Aug. 26 when he pulled a muscle in his lower back. He's aiming to toss a bullpen session this weekend.

Mike Pelfrey will probably be called up when rosters expand, according to the New York Post. Pelfrey had a 5.48 in four starts with the Mets earlier this year but has looked dominant at the minor league level.

If the Mets have to call up a pitcher to start for Pedro Martinez on Saturday, it won't automatically be Mike Pelfrey, according to the New York Post. Pelfrey, who held a 5.48 ERA in four starts with the Mets earlier this year, is currently on the minor league DL with right lat muscle strain. He said on Saturday that coming back "sometime next weekend, maybe Saturday or Sunday" was likely.

Mike Pelfrey, who was demoted on August 2, is currently on the seven-day minor-league DL with a right lat muscle strain, according to the New York Post. The injury is not conisdered serious, and Pelfrey should still be called up once the rosters expand in September.
August 3, 2006
Mike Pelfrey, who was demoted to Triple-A on Wednesday, will likely be recalled when the rosters expand on September 1, if not sooner, according to the New York Times. Whether or not Pelfrey, who held a 5.48 ERA in four starts with the Mets, would be used as a starter or reliever remains to be seen. "Everything that he did up here was positive," Manager Willie Randolph said. "ItÂ’s a glimpse of our future."

The Mets optioned Mike Pelfrey to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, according to the AP. The rookie was 2-1 with a 5.48 ERA in four starts and was replaced on the roster by Royce Ring.
July 31, 2006
Though the Mets are going with a six-man rotation, it looks like Mike Pelfrey will be the odd man out when they cut back to five starters, according to the official team website. However, manager Willie Randolph wouldn't commit to anything. "What happens if Pelfrey throws a two-hit shutout Tuesday? That would make it a tough decision." If Pelfrey is removed from the rotation, it will likely be after Tuesday's start.

Recalled from Double-A Binghampton Friday, Mike Pelfrey picked up a win in his first major league start on Saturday. He allowed two runs on five hits, though he walked four, threw a wild pitch and hit a batter over five innings.

Because the Mets have a doubleheader with the Marlins this weekend, Mike Pelfrey could make his major league debut on Saturday, according to the New York Daily News. He has posted a 6-3 record, a 2.45 ERA, and 103 K in 88 1/3 IP while splitting time between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton this season. Along with Pelfrey, the Mets are considering recalling John Maine or using Darren Oliver to start. Two of those three pitchers will get the nod later this week if Pedro Martinez is unable to go.
