General manager Omar Minaya held a press conference to announce that Randolph would remain at his post. Minaya reportedly had a meeting with owner Fred Wilpon and COO Jeff Wilpon which resulted in positive support for Randolph and his performance. "Willie's job was never in danger going into this meeting," Minaya said.

Mike Pelfrey heads into Friday's mano y mano duel for the No. 5 job with El Duque, and pitching coach Rick Peterson just said on the ESPN broadcast of today's game at Disney that it will be a "photo finish" between the two, this according to New York Newsday. The two right-handers will split tomorrow's Florida finale against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale. The report noted that while Orlando Hernandez opened camp with the slot, injuries have forced him to miss most of the spring work. Pelfrey, who made his full allotment of five starts, has been less than impressive registering a 8.31 ERA with 29 hits in 17 1/3 innings of work.
