The Yankees recalled Kei Igawa from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre on Sunday. He should see occasional work in relief, but nothing more, the rest of the way.
July 27, 2007
The Yankees sent the struggling Kei Igawa to Triple-A Scranton on Friday, according to the AP. He was the losing pitcher in a 7-0 defeat at Kansas City on Thursday after allowing five runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The lackluster outing raised his ERA to 6.79 in 12 games.
July 21, 2007
With Jeff Karstens and Phil Hughes nearing their returns, manager Joe Torre has acknowledge that Kei Igawa's next start is a crucial one, according to the AP. Igawa holds an ugly 6.97 ERA on the year, and a 6.61 mark in his last three starts.
June 18, 2007
Kei Igawa is about to rejoin the Yankees rotation as their fifth starter. The club plans to recall him in time to start Friday's game, according to the New York Daily News. Igawa struggled in his first stint with the Yankees, posting a 7.63 ERA, but in his past three starts with Triple-A Scranton, his ERA was 1.80. He also struck out 21 batters in 20 innings over that stretch.
June 2, 2007
Kei Igawa may get recalled in time to start Monday's game with Chicago, the AP reports. Igawa would be replacing Roger Clemens, who is battling a sore groin and will be unable to go.
May 7, 2007
The Yankees optioned Kei Igawa to Single-A Tampa on Monday, according to the AP. The Yankees spent $46 million to bring Igawa over from Japan in the off-season and expected him to fill a spot at the back of their rotation. He has been a disappointment, going 2-1 with a 7.63 ERA in six games, including five starts.
April 29, 2007
Kei Igawa worked six scoreless innings Saturday (two hits, four walks, six strikeouts) in relief of injured started Jeff Karstens. With Karstens headed to the DL with a broken fibula, Igawa will be back in the Yankees rotation, probably getting a turn against the Mariners.
April 27, 2007
Joe Torre expects Kei Igawa to eventually be back in the rotation, even as Igawa is being skipped this time through in favor of Jeff Karstens, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Torre also said there was no immediate plan to send Igawa to the minors; for now, the Yanks want Igawa to work with pitching coach Ron Guidry.
April 26, 2007
Kei Igawa will be skipped at least once in the Yankees starting rotation, as Jeff Karstens will get the nod for Saturday's battle with the Red Sox. Igawa sports a 7.84 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over his first four big league starts.
March 19, 2007
The Yankees want Kei Igawa to be one of their starters, but manager Joe Torre hasn't completely ruled out the idea of having the lefty start the season in the minors, according to the AP. "I think we have a lot of options that we have to consider," Torre said. "But the first consideration for us is do what's best for the player, especially someone you feel is going to be a big part of what you do." Igawa has struggled with his control this spring, walking seven in seven innings, although he did have a good bullpen session on Monday. In the unlikely event that Igawa doesn't make the rotation, Jeff Karstens will take his spot.
March 15, 2007
Kei Igawa threw three scoreless innings Thursday, but he did it by allowing a hit and four walks while striking out five. Igawa has 12 strikeouts in seven spring innings, but he's also handed out seven free passes.
March 5, 2007
Kei Igawa struggled in his spring debut against the Tigers on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. However, he did strike out three in the inning.
March 4, 2007
Kei Igawa is slated to make his spring debut on Monday against the Tigers. Igawa, who signed a five-year, $20 million deal with the Yankees back in December, is penciled in as the club's No. 4 starter.
