Tom Gorzelanny is done for the year due to a sprained middle finger on his pitching hand, according to the Beaver County Times. "It's a frustrating end to a frustrating season," Gorzelanny said. "It's unfortunate for it to end this way. I wanted to be able to pitch a few more times but now I'll just get an earlier start on my off-season workouts and work hard on coming back stronger and having a better season next year."

Updating an earlier report, it appears the back tightness that hampered Tom Gorzelanny in his start earlier today will not cause him to miss his next start, according to MLB.com. "As far as I know, he should be fine," manager John Russell said. "We'll just have to monitor it the next few days. It's just a tight back right now. There's no pain in his legs or anywhere else.

Gorzelanny now owns a 10.80 ERA over 8.1 innings this year, and he has walked seven batter with only five strike outs. He may or may not be injured, but the bottom line is that he has a ton of work to do before he is worth using in any league at the moment.

Gorzelanny has only two K in 11.1 innings this spring, and his ineffective work on the hill, and some minor issues with his shoulder, mark him as a huge question mark heading into April.

Tom Gorzelanny tossed a scoreless inning Sunday, giving up one hit with no walks and no strikeouts. The left-hander's first spring start was originally scheduled for Thursday but was pushed back because of shoulder soreness. He appears to be fine now, though. "It's good," Gorzelanny said on MLB.com. "It felt fine today. It was a productive outing. I am just trying to keep getting in shape. But that's why we're here, right?" Gorzelanny had shoulder problems towards the end of last season, as well, so despite the fact that he says he's fine, this is not a good trend. Keep a close eye on him.

Tom Gorzelanny will miss his scheduled start Thursday because of what the team is describing as shoulder tenderness, this according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "If this were April 2 or Aug. 1 or any date in the regular season, Tom would be making his start," general manager Neal Huntington told the paper. The left-hander is expected to return early next week.
