Better than I have all year. And I'm going to throw the ball like I know I can. The velocity's there. The break is there. I can't wait to get out there. My injury kept my velocity down, and it made me change my arm angles all the time. But not now. I'm ready to go."

"I'm letting everybody down. I'm letting myself down... For crying out loud, I walked, like, 100 people tonight. I can't seem to keep pitches down. Or if I keep them down, they're not strikes. March 16, 2008
Following a story from earlier in the week, Ian Snell has accepted a new three-year agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to the Associated Press. Snell and the Pittsburgh Pirates agreed Sunday to three-year contract worth at least $8 million, a deal reached five days after the Pirates had unilaterally renewed the pitcher for 2008. Snell would have been eligible for salary arbitration after next season. The agreement includes team options for 2011 and 2012. Pittsburgh selected Snell in the 26th round of the 2000 amateur draft after he graduated from high school in Camden, Del. The 26-year-old right-hander went 9-12 last season with a 3.76 ERA in 32 starts and has a 24-26 record in a major league career that began in 2004. Snell led the Pirates with 208 innings last season, and general manager Neal Huntington decided Snell was worth the risk of a multiyear contract.

Ian Snell hurled four innings on Monday and he picked up the victory as he allowed only two hits, one walk and one run on the day. March 8, 2008
The Pirates have formally extended a long-term contract offer to starter Ian Snell, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. No specifics of the offer were immediately known. Snell, the Pittsburgh ace, continues to grow into his role. His 2007 statline -- 3.76 ERA, 177 Ks, 1.33 WHIP and 7.66 K rate -- doesn't represented his 9-12 record. With any run support Snell would have approached 13-14 wins.
March 5, 2008
The Pirates and Ian Snell are in talks regarding a long-term contract. "I'd love to be part of this team for a long time," Snell tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I'd love to see it get done." January 13, 2008
The Pirates are in no hurry to lock Ian Snell down for a long time. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Snell recently approached the team about a long-term deal, but was told the franchise was not interested. Snell is one of the cornerstones of the Pirates staff; however, he is three years away from free agency and the team has little incentive now to give him a multi-year deal. Another solid season from him may change their mind.
