October 25, 2007
Jon Lester is looking like the leading candidate to start Game 4 for the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald. Lester hasn't started a game since Sept. 26, when he threw 94 pitches against Oakland. He threw a 65-pitch simulated game on Tuesday.
October 17, 2007
If the Red Sox make it to a Game 7, Jon Lester could receive consideration to start the game, according to the Boston Herald. Lester tossed three shutout innings against Cleveland on Tuesday, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out four. "The big thing was he threw strike one a lot tonight, moved the ball around to both sides of the plate," said catcher Jason Varitek. "He threw the ball real well." This is likely speculation more than anything else, and the Sox need to concentrate on winning the next two games before they start thinking about a Game 7.
September 2, 2007
As expected, The Red Sox recalled Jon Lester from Double-A Portland to make Sunday's start. Lester is 2-0 with a 5.67 ERA in six starts with the Red Sox this season.
August 23, 2007
The Red Sox optioned Jon Lester to Triple-A Pawtucket Thursday. He held a 5.67 ERA in six starts since Boston called him up from Pawtucket on July 23. Julian Tavarez, who pitched very well in a spot start last Sunday, will take Lester's spot in the rotation Sunday, according to the AP. Manager Terry Francona said Lester would be back when rosters expand, though it's not clear if he'll be re-inserted into the rotation at that time.
July 23, 2007
Jon Lester pitched six innings to win his first game in 11 months and lead the Red Sox to a 6-2 win over the Indians Monday night. July 23, 2007
The Red Sox officially recalled Jon Lester prior to Monday's game to start against the Indians, according to the Sports Network. Lester was 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A, and it's possible that he'll be sent back down once Curt Schilling returns from the DL.
July 22, 2007
Jon Lester will replace Julian Tavarez in the Red Sox rotation. He'll make his first start on Monday against the Indians, according to the AP. "I don't think it really has sunken in yet, and I don't think it will sink in until tomorrow when I get on the mound," Lester said Sunday. Lester was 4-5 with a 3.89 ERA in 14 starts at Triple-A.
June 26, 2007
Jon Lester suffered through one of the worst starts of his minor league career last night, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket. Lester, who was recently passed over for a spot start in place of the injured Curt Schilling, got off to a tremendous start this year but has been hittable recently, holding a 7.58 ERA and 2.05 WHIP over his last four starts. He's still a good bet for a promotion at some point, but Lester will have to pick things up to force Boston's hand.
June 22, 2007
Jon Lester is one of the top candidates to start in place of the injured Curt Schilling next week, according to the Boston Herald. Lester currently sports a 2.49 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A. Kason Gabbard is also receiving consideration.

Jon Lester was activated from the DL on Monday and was sent to Triple-A Pawtucket, according to the AP. This was really just a paper move, as Lester had already been in Pawtucket on a rehab assignment, holding a 1.93 ERA in five starts. Jon Lester, who has been on the disabled list all season while recovering from lymphoma treatments, will not be activated this weekend, according to the AP. Lester developed a cramp in his left forearm during a rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday. "Even though we're thrilled it was a cramp, there's still a reason it was a cramp and we don't want that to happen," manager Terry Francona said.
May 5, 2007
Jon Lester is expected to join the Red Sox, as he continues to build up to joining the team, according to the Boston Globe. "The more we talked about it, we thought it made sense to let him come with us," manager Terry Francona said yesterday. "Rather than put a firm date on, 'OK, here's when he's going to go pitch,' we're going to evaluate him every day. Let him start out by playing catch like he's supposed to, then long toss, then a side day. It's not like we changed our mind and something's wrong, just the more we thought about it, having him here made sense." Lester is cancer-free but suffered a cramp in his forearm during his last rehab appearance on Wednesday. He likely will work for Triple-A Pawtucket at some point before eventually joining the Red Sox's roster.

He allowed two runs on three hits in three innings for Triple-A Pawtucket. Lester was sidelined last August when he was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph system; doctors pronounced him cancer-free in December. "You might be jumping the gun a little bit," Francona said. Of reports that Lester reached 95 miles an hour with his fastball, Francona said, "He did that all through the minor leagues. When he got to us, we didn't see that."

Jon Lester's two Triple-A rehab starts are scheduled for today and next Tuesday, the Boston Globe reports. Lester's 30-day rehab stint will officially end three days later, when the Red Sox must make a decision: option him to Triple-A or call him up. Jon Lester threw a side session at Fenway Park Sunday and is expected to make two more rehab starts for Triple-A Pawtucket before Boston decides whether to put him on the big league roster, according to the AP. "Right now I feel strong, I feel healthy. I feel about as normal as I can be," Lester said. "I think that first start is going to be tough. The first couple innings, I'm going to have to control myself a little bit. Hopefully, it will be all right."

March 18, 2007
Manager Terry Francona said that Jon Lester is unlikely to start the year in extended spring training, according to the Boston Globe. "So it's good, and I enjoyed it and, hopefully, we just build from here." Lester will throw his next bullpen session on Wednesday.
February 7, 2007
Jon Lester may be held back a bit at the start of camp for precautionary reasons in order to regain full strength and regain weight following his battle with anaplastic large cell lymphoma, according to the Boston Herald. "I had a conversation with him about a month ago about being cautious, being slow and he didn't want to hear any part of it but he's a smart enough kid to understand we have his best interest in mind," manager Terry Francona said. "When we get down there, I think we'll sit with him, the doctors, the trainers and try to put together a schedule we think is completely in his best interests. We don't want to hold him back just for the sake of holding him back but we also don't want to let him hurt himself. He's had a traumatic winter and we need to be smart on how we handle him."
