GM Theo Epstein would not address Lester's condition. "We want to continue to respect the wishes of the Lester family for him to fight his battle in privacy and will continue to do that," Epstein said. |
| September 2, 2006 Jon Lester could be out at least six months as he is treated with lymphoma, a cancer that starts in the lymphatic tissue, a part of the body's immune system, according to the Boston Herald. "Today's news regarding Jon Lester is a personal matter, so we will refrain from commenting other than to say that we care deeply about Jon and will support him through this difficult period," Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said in a statement.
