The Boston Globe reports that the latest CT scan of Jon Lester was clean and his cancer appears to be in remission. He plans to be at spring training with the Red Sox in 2007. GM Theo Epstein would not address Lester's condition. "We want to continue to respect the wishes of the Lester family for him to fight his battle in privacy and will continue to do that," Epstein said.

Jon Lester could be out at least six months as he is treated with lymphoma, a cancer that starts in the lymphatic tissue, a part of the body's immune system, according to the Boston Herald. "Today's news regarding Jon Lester is a personal matter, so we will refrain from commenting other than to say that we care deeply about Jon and will support him through this difficult period," Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein said in a statement. "The thoughts and prayers of the entire Red Sox organization are with Jon and his family."

Jon Lester has been diagnosed with a treatable form of lymphoma, and he'll start undergoing treatment next week, according to the AP. There is no timetable for his return.

On the disabled list with a sore back, Jon Lester apparently has been undergoing an array of exams in Boston for internal medical issues, including cancer, according to the Boston Herald. The Red Sox aren't saying much, but the Herald cited a source that said Lester has swollen lymph nodes, which could be caused by several things including infections and cancer.
August 28, 2006
The Red Sox placed Jon Lester on the 15-day DL Monday with a troublesome back, according to the AP. The move is retroactive to August 24. "He'll get a clean bill of health and we'll all feel better," manager Terry Francona said. "We don't want to hurt this kid. ... If we had to shut him down, we would."
August 28, 2006
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox may shut Jon Lester down for the remainder of the season, though more will be known after his sore back is examined further today. Kason Gabbard will start in place of Lester today.
August 27, 2006
Jon Lester will not make his scheduled start on Monday due to a sore back, according to the AP. He will be sent back to Boston to have his back examined. Kason Gabbard will get the nod on Monday.

Jon Lester, who is 5-0 with a 3.04 ERA this year, is aiming to lower his pitch counts, according to the Boston Herald. He's lasted more than six innings just once during his nine starts with the Red Sox this year. “Obviously, you want to go deeper into games, and it all comes back to me,” Lester said. “I have to throw the ball more in the (strike) zone. You saw what happened vs. Kansas City. I threw the ball in the zone, where I wanted to, and they were swinging early in counts. I have to repeat that, and I’ll be fine.”
June 21, 2006
Red Sox manager Terry Francona told Jon Lester yesterday that the pitcher will remain with the team for the foreseeable future, according to the Boston Herald. The Red Sox want him to relax and not have to worry about a demotion.

If Tim Wakefield's back is still bothering him on Thursday, Jon Lester could be moved up in the rotation to start in his place, according to the Boston Herald. As of right now, Lester is slated to start on Friday against the Braves.

Despite Wednesday's rainout, the Red Sox are still planning on recalling Jon Lester from the minors to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, according to the Boston Herald. Lester currently holds a 2.95 ERA with 40 strikeouts and 20 walks in 42 2/3 innings for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Although GM Theo Epstein said just days ago that the Red Sox weren't going to recall Jon Lester to start, all signs point to the 22-year-old making his major league debut during Saturday's doubleheader, according to the Boston Globe. June 2, 2006
GM Theo Epstein stated on Thursday that the Red Sox would not call up top prospect Jon Lester to start on Tuesday in place of the injured David Wells, according to the Boston Herald. “We haven’t officially announced who’s going to start Tuesday, but it’s at Yankee Stadium and that may not be the best forum for a player to make his major league debut,” Epstein said. “Jonathan Lester is at a very critical part of his development. He’s in finishing school, getting very close to helping us, but I don’t think that’s happening by Tuesday.” Lester is 3-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 10 starts with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
