Carlos Quentin is making strides in his recovery from wrist surgery, according to the AP. He was re-evaluated Friday and the X-rays of the fracture Quentin suffered on September 1 looked great and he was definitely making progress.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Carlos Quentin took dry swings Friday for the first time since suffering the injury September 1. He said the wrist feels stiff but not painful. Quentin said he has tried various methods of accelerating the healing to be ready "as soon as possible," such as taking several vitamins, using a bone stimulator and spending time in a hyperbaric chamber. Quentin's wrist looked red and somewhat puffy.

Carlos Quentin will rejoin the White Sox in Kansas City on Friday and will be able to test his right wrist with swings according to the Chicago Tribune. An examination revealed that the fracture has lined up but, as expected, hasn't completely healed. A soft cast was removed and Quentin was allowed to resume baseball work. He started range of motion drills Wednesday and will resume swinging on Friday. He is being examined daily.

The White Sox are holding out hope that outfielder Carlos Quentin could return for the playoffs, the AP reports. He underwent surgery on Monday to stabilize his broken right wrist. "It’s going to take awhile," manager Ozzie Guillen says. "Hopefully, if we make the playoffs, we can count on him in the playoffs. Right now, to get to the playoffs, I don’t think he can help out."

Carlos Quentin was noticeably absent from White Sox pregame drills and batting practice on Wednesday at Camden Yards, but it was an absence ordered by White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, according to MLB.com. The intense young outfielder has played in 126 of the team's 132 games entering the series finale against the Orioles, posting statistics worthy of serious American League Most Valuable Player consideration. But when Guillen decided to give Quentin the day off before Thursday's scheduled break, he wanted to make sure Quentin didn't arrive at the ballpark until about one hour before game time. Otherwise, the Sox fear he would ignore their demands to take a full day off and would be taking BP regardless.

"Am I there yet?" Quentin asked. "No, I'm not there as far as getting my timing down. But strength-wise, my shoulder feels even better." Quentin is in a battle for the starting LF role this season and he would appear to be the teams top choice to man the spot if he can prove that he is healthy.

"This kid is going to be here for good and I think he was creating bad habits with his swing and it led to some soreness, but he'll be fine," manager Ozzie Guillen tells the Chicago Tribune. We're beginning to wonder if Quentin's shoulder will cause him to open the year back in the minors. He remains an intriguing long-term prospect, but this injury and a crowded outfield cloud his 2008 value.
