ESPN reports that the Mets have agreed on a one-year deal with Tom Glavine. The deal is worth $11 million, and includes a player option for 2008. It was thought that Glavine wanted to return to Atlanta, but the latest reports said that the Braves didn't even offer him a contract.
November 29, 2006
Tom Glavine has yet to receive a contract offer from the Braves, which could increase the likelihood he will return to the Mets next season, according to the AP. "He can't even evaluate that they really want him if he doesn't have an offer," Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton said. "The bottom line is, we're waiting to see if Atlanta wants to make a proposal to us. We've had really nice dialogue on a few occasions and we've kind of left it: We're open. We're waiting for John (Schuerholz) to give us a call if he would like to."

The Mets turned down their option on Tom Glavine Monday, as expected, the AP reports. Glavine is now a free agent, with the Mets and Braves the two teams mentioned most frequently. "We hope to continue to speak with the agent, negotiate, and hopefully be able to bring Tommy back," Mets GM Omar Minaya said. "We let them know ahead of time that we were going to make this move."
November 18, 2006
The Mets still are expected to turn down their $14 million option on Tom Glavine Monday, so he'll get a $3 million buyout, according to Newsday. The Mets still hope to re-sign him, and they expect him to choose a team between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings Dec. 4.
November 10, 2006
Tom Glavine declined his $7.5 million option Friday, and the Mets are expected to turn down their $14 million option before the Nov. 20 deadline, according to the AP. However, Glavine could very well stay with the Mets, as the two parties are currently trying to come to terms on a two-year deal.
November 1, 2006
The New York Daily News reports that Tom Glavine and the Mets are in "deep discussions" about a two-year contract worth about $25 million. Both sides already have 2007 options, and it's unlikely that Glavine will pitch anywhere but New York next season. Glavine, who was 15-7 this year, is 10 wins shy of 300.
October 17, 2006
Tom Glavine said that even though he is pitching Game 5 of the NLCS tonight, he could be available to help out in a potential Game 7 if needed, according to the New York Post. "It all depends on how I feel," said Glavine. "[Thursday] would be my normal side day and there have been plenty of times this year where I've thrown my first side day and felt like I could pitch."
August 31, 2006
Tom Glavine is set to return to the mound to start Friday's game, according to the AP. It will be his first action since being sidelined with a blood clot in his left shoulder.
August 27, 2006
After Tom Glavine threw for about 20 minutes in the bullpen yesterday, he said he should be able to return to the Mets' rotation to start Friday's game against the Astros, according to the New York Daily News. He has been bothered by coldness in his ring finger, the result of a circulatory problem in his pitching arm. "It's all based on my finger, because everything else felt good. I had no problems with anything else, so as long as my finger feels better than it did or no worse than it did, that's going to be my barometer," Glavine said. "It feels better than it did a week ago, so that's a good sign."
August 26, 2006
The Mets expect Tom Glavine to throw off a mound today for the first time since experiencing coldness in his ring finger, the result of a circulatory problem in his pitching arm, according to the New York Daily News. Glavine hopes to return to start Friday in Houston.
August 25, 2006
Tom Glavine, who is recovering from a circulatory problem in his pitching arm, hopes to return to the rotation late next week, according to the New York Times. Next Saturday seems like the most likely scenario.
August 23, 2006
Tom Glavine, who is recovering from an angiogram, planned to toss a baseball Thursday and Friday and to throw off a mound on Saturday, according to the AP. He could rejoin the rotation sometime next week.
August 22, 2006
A source told the New York Post last night that Tom Glavine underwent an angiogram yesterday and will not require surgery. The same source said that Glavine should be able to return to the mound sometime next week. It was feared that Glavine may have a blood clot that would have required season-ending surgery.
August 21, 2006
Tom Glavine will have an angiogram as soon as possible, likely either tomorrow or Wednesday, on his pitching shoulder, according to the New York Post. Glavine might have a serious blood clot in the shoulder that could require season-ending surgery. "The possibilities go from doing an angiogram and seeing that this is an isolated incident and I could be pitching by the weekend, to I have to have surgery and I could be done for the year," Glavine said.
August 20, 2006
Tom Glavine is having his pitching shoulder examined today for a possible blood clot and it's possible that he could miss the rest of the season, according to the AP. Glavine felt coldness in his left ring finger after his start last week in Philadelphia. "It's a strange feeling," Glavine said Sunday. "It doesn't hurt or anything." This obviously would be a big blow to the Mets, who are now without Pedro Martinez, as well.
August 20, 2006
The New York Daily News reports that Tom Glavine's season is in jeopardy due to coldness in a finger on his pitching hand. A CT scan is scheduled for Monday and an angiogram for Wednesday to help determine the cause, but the fear is that he may have a blood clot or "knot" in an artery near his left shoulder. A "knot" would required surgery, while a clot could be dissolved and limit the amount of action he might miss.
June 5, 2006
After Tom Glavine tossed a side session Sunday, he declared himself ready to pitch Wednesday on short rest, according to the New York Daily News. He threw only 85 pitches when he started the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
June 2, 2006
Because of Friday's rainout, Tom Glavine will start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Giants.
May 8, 2006
The Mets and Tom Glavine agreed to restructure the veteran lefty's contract. In the new deal, there is a mutual option for 2007. Previously, Glavine would have been a free agent this fall.
March 22, 2006
Tom Glavine will likely start the season opener for the Mets since Pedro Martinez, who is dealing with a toe injury, isn't likely to be ready by then, according to the AP. Glavine won 13 games with a 3.53 ERA for the Mets last season.
March 9, 2006
The New York Times reports that the Mets have pushed Tom Glavine back a couple of days to start on Tuesday instead of Saturday. That puts Glavine on schedule to pitch opening day, which he'll do if Pedro Martinez isn't ready to go.
February 28, 2006
Tom Glavine said he is aiming to get at least 300 wins before retiring, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He currently stands at 275 victories. "Unless my arm falls off, I'm not planning on getting this close to 300 wins and shutting it down," Glavine said. "It's the benchmark for pitchers. I sure hope 300-game winners aren't extinct."
