Mark Teixeira is set to become a free agent after the 2008 season, but he isn't worried about that according to a report on the AP. “The most important thing for me this year is getting this team to the playoffs. I’m one piece of the puzzle. For me to worry about contract negotiations and contract talks, that’s going to take away from the team. I’m going to go out there and play the game. If I play the game the way I’m capable of playing, the contract will take care of itself.” Well the Braves should be worried about it even if Tex isn't. In each of the past four seasons Teixeira has hit at least 30 HR with 100 RBI, so there is no doubting his value to whichever ballclub he is on. Toss in the fact that he is just 27-years-old, and you have a guy who is looking at a big fat contract sometime soon.

Tex could command as much as $20 million per season when he becomes a free agent after the season, and it seems unlikely the Braves would be willing to reach that numbers, but we'll see.
