October 2, 2006
Johan Santana will start the Twins' first playoff game against the A's on Tuesday. Boof Bonser is slated to go Wednesday, with Brad Radke pitching Game 3.
September 24, 2006
It's very likely Johan Santana will make just one start next week as the Twins look to get him set up for the playoffs, even if the Twins have a shot at overtaking Detroit for the AL Central title. "It's very important to have him pitch two games in the first round," Ron Gardenhire said.
August 19, 2006
The Pioneer Press reports that Johan Santana has a blister on his middle finger. The Twins medical staff said it isn't expected to be fully healed when he takes the mound for Sunday's start. Apparently, he's had the condition for three weeks, and he's pitched well despite the problem.
August 6, 2006
Johan Santana has occasional back spasms and cramping in his hamstrings, but he said that's not why he has a 4.90 ERA in his past seven starts, according to the Star-Tribune. "Ask any player, and you'd be surprised if he says he feels 100 percent," he said. "I don't want to blame anything."
July 23, 2006
Because the Twins have the day off on Thursday, they will skip Scott Baker's next turn in the rotation, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. As a result, Johan Santana will start next Sunday instead of Monday, which will give him two starts next week instead of one.
March 31, 2006
The Star-Tribune reports that Johan Santana needed 55 pitches to get through his final outing of the spring. Santana got into trouble by not throwing his fastball enough. Santana has gotten off to slow (by his standards) starts the last two seasons before dominating in the second half.
