Coming into Friday's game against the Mets, Ty Wigginton was hitting .412 in the month of August. Those numbers were increased during the game, as he went 2-for-4 in the Astros 3-0 loss to the Mets.

Ty Wigginton has had a superb August, and he could continue that Tuesday when he and the Astros go up against Milwaukee hurler Ben Sheets. In 28 career at-bats against Sheets, Wigginton is hitting .429 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Ty Wigginton has been named the NL co-Player of the Week (with hurler Johan Santana of the Mets), according to the AP. Wigginton led the NL with a .571 (16-for-28) batting average, 11 RBI, 16 hits, 32 total bases, and tied for the league-lead with four home runs and nine runs scored. He registered multiple hits in six of seven games.

The Houston Astros struggled to get any offense going this evening, posting just four hits throughout as they suffered the 6-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. None of the Astros managed multiple hits, leaving third baseman Ty Wigginton as the top man of the night, going 1-for-3 with his second home run of the season, a solo shot that represented the only run Houston would produce on the night.

Ty Wigginton was out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Wednesday after manager Cecil Cooper decided the third baseman needed more time to heal from the bruise he suffered last week on the left side of his rib cage. Wigginton admitted Wednesday he probably rushed back too soon. "Monday was definitely a lot better," Wigginton said. "I probably came back too soon from the thumb thing; I probably came back too soon from the rib thing. By no means is that an excuse. That's always been what I've done -- as soon as I feel I can be out on the field, I expect to be out there to help my team, my whole career."

Ty Wigginton returned to the starting lineup against the Rangers on Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He missed the previous three games in San Francisco after being hit by a pitch in the left rib cage, and Wigginton stated, "I'm focusing more on the actual games than I am my body. Obviously, there is still some soreness in there, but it's something I feel very comfortable that I can play through it."

Ty Wigginton is ready for minors rehab and could be activated from the DL next week, according to MLB.com. Wigginton fielded approximately 25 ground balls on Friday without incident, and will begin a three-game stint with the Triple-A Express on Monday. Assuming all goes well, he'll return to Houston on Thursday and will be activated from the disabled list in time for the homestand opener with the Brewers. He is recovering from a small fracture in his left thumb.

Reversing their previous position, the Houston Astros have decided to place Ty Wigginton on the DL retroactive to April 6th with his fractured left thumb, this according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton's spot on the roster will be filled by David Newhan. Wigginton was thought to be a good source of cheap power this season, but so far it has been one setback after another for the Astros third basemen.

Ty Wigginton will not need to go on the DL, according to MLB.com. Wigginton avoided a trip to the DL after testing his fractured left thumb during a workout at Minute Maid Park on Thursday. The team determined that he will remain active and will be available to pinch-hit and pinch-run when they open a three-game set with the Marlins on Friday. He will likely need more time before he will be able to contribute defensively, but GM Ed Wade is confident Wigginton is healthy enough to contribute offensively off the bench. Wigginton commented after today's test, "I felt good. I felt it on a few swings, but it bounced back. Hitting was definitely a real positive. Catching the ball hurt a little bit, but I'm still making progress." This is great news for the Astros' slugger.

Ty Wigginton will be evaluated on Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton commented that his broken left thumb tip felt better on Tuesday, and he could move the thumb freely in his brace, but was still unsure whether he'd be able to grip a bat by Thursday's game. He added, "I just know from putting this thing on I can move it around, which means some of the swelling is getting out of there." He will be evaluated, and the team will decide whether to place him on the DL.

Ty Wigginton is optimistic that he won't have to go on the DL due to his thumb injury (small fracture), according to the Houston Chronicle. Wigginton was sore after sustaining the injury, although he hopes to avoid the DL. He will see Dr. Tom Mehlhoff on Monday and said, "Hopefully it's nothing for the DL."

Ty Wigginton left the Astros game on Saturday with what was originally thought to be a sprained left thumb. However, digital x-rays appear to show a break so they will be sent to the team's physician for a definitive ruling, this according to MLB.com. If Wigginton is forced to the sidelines it would appear that Mark Loretta would be in line to pick up the starts at third base. Stay tuned for further details.

Ty Wigginton is expected to be out of action until Saturday, this according to the Houston Chronicle. Wiggington is suffering from a tender right quad muscle. Wigginton was injured last Sunday during the split-squad game against the Atlanta Braves "I got a little knot, but I'm good to go," he said. "I think they're erring more on the side of caution." Wiggy offers mixed league owners positional versatility and cheap home runs with his switch from Tampa Bay to Houston's Minute Maid Park.

Ty Wigginton, a sleeper candidate at the corner in mixed formats, homered off Tom Glavine in the second inning on Saturday. Wiggington was successful in his short stint with Houston late last summer. After being traded from the Rays, Wiggs hit six home runs in 164 at-bats.
