Chipper Jones restructured his contract Friday to help keep the Braves competitive in the free agent market, according to the AP. Jones agreed to reduce his salary for this upcoming season from $17 million to $11 million and could save the Braves about $15 million over the next three seasons. The new deal keeps Chipper in Atlanta through at least 2008 and includes and option for 2009.

"It buckled, I don't know how else to explain it," Jones said. "I couldn't take another step. It was like someone shot me in the foot." He missed seven games in April the last time he injured the foot, and he said the pain was worse this time. "Nobody seems to know what's wrong with it. I was initially diagnosed with a bone bruise, but it's safe to say five weeks later it's not a bruise. Maybe we'll take a closer look at it and see what's wrong."
