Melvin Mora took a line drive off his off his knee in the seventh inning on Sunday. He was playing shallow to defend against a bunt when he was hit. Mora finished the inning in the field but came out of the game in the eighth.

After straining his right shoulder in the seventh inning and leaving Friday night's game, Melvin Mora as back in the lineup on Saturday. He had some mild tendinitis behind his shoulder, according to manager Sam Perlozzo, but Mora was healthy enough to play.

Melvin Mora strained his right shoulder and left the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. According to the AP, Baltimore manager Sam Perlozzo said Mora tweaked it prior to the game and the injury got worse as the game went on.

Melvin Mora signed a three-year, $25 million contract extension with the Orioles Thursday, according to the AP. The deal includes an option for a fourth year. Mora is hitting .288 with seven homers and 20 RBI this year.

Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo isn't sure when Melvin Mora, who is dealing with a sore back, will return to action, according to the Baltimore Sun. "He tried to swing and couldn't do it so he's not available," Perlozzo said. "We were kind of hoping that he would be, but he gave it a shot and couldn't do it." Mora suffered the injury on Tuesday when he stumbled across first base and fell.

Manager Sam Perlozzo moved Melvin Mora from third to second in the batting order Wednesday night, according to the Baltimore Sun. Perlozzo stated that he would prefer to have Mora bat third, but he wanted to get some production out of the No. 2 spot. "I'd say [Mora is] probably going to be there for a little while," Perlozzo said. "With the absence of Newhan, no one's been really able [to produce from the No. 2 spot]. We've tried a few guys ... and it just doesn't look like it's going to work. I just feel like it's time to get ahead and shoot [Mora] back up there." Mora has a .305 career average from the No. 2 spot.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Melvin Mora is close to completing a three-year contract extension with the Orioles. The contract would likely hinge on Mora passing a physical, which wouldn't happen until later this week. He is hitting .259 with four homers and 11 RBI this year.

The agent for Melvin Mora said that his client has cut off negotiations on a contract extension with the Orioles until after the season, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Melvin's feeling was he wanted to concentrate on the season, and we understand that," said Orioles vice president Jim Duquette.

Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo said he's leaning toward opening the season with Melvin Mora batting second in the order, according to the Baltimore Sun. He'd rather have Mora batting third, but he hasn't found a suitable No. 2 option. Currently it's looking like Brian Roberts will lead off and be followed by Mora, Miguel Tejada, Jay Gibbons and Javy Lopez.

Melvin Mora is still adamant that he would like a contract extension before the season begins, according to the Baltimore Sun. "When play starts, I just want to play baseball," Mora said. "That's one thing I am going to sit down and talk with [agent Lou Babby] about. He needs to see what I am thinking and I want to know what he is thinking. We are a team." It's believed that Mora is interested in a three-year extension worth about $10 million per year.

Melvin Mora left Saturday's spring training game with a bruised left forearm after being struck by a pitch from Eric Hull in the second inning, according to the AP. Mora had a wrap on his arm as he left the ballpark, but the injury was not believed to be serious. "It's swollen, but I don't worry about that," he said. "It looks ugly but tomorrow I'll be fine."

"I cannot go to that competition to try to play something I don't know how to play. I mean, I know how to play that, but it's a long time I don't play center field. I'm a third baseman.
