There are plenty of Jays fans and fantasy owners monitoring the rehab progress of Vernon Wells and it seems he's somewhat a medical miracle, this according to Slam Sports. Wells, who fractured his left wrist May 9, is close to returning and far ahead of of his original schedule. Last night he began a rehab assignment with class-A Dunedin, just four weeks since the injury. The initial report was that he would be lost for six to eight weeks. "He could be back the middle of next week if all goes well," manager John Gibbons said yesterday. "I didn't expect him to do anything for six weeks."

Supporting a story by the AP yesterday, it does in fact appear that Vernon Wells is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken left wrist and that he could return to the Jays lineup by late next week, according to MLB.com. Vernon Wells took some batting practice thrown by Roy Halladay on Thursday to test out his surgically repaired shoulder, according to MLB.com. "I've taken a lot of swings and I'm just putting it through as many tests as possible," said Wells. "I'm swinging and missing. Obviously, I'm doing that on purpose just to see how it feels." Hopefully his shoulder won't slow him down once the season begins, so he can start swinging, hitting and improving the .245 batting average from last season.
