Mike Lowell and the Marlins agreed to amend the final three years of his contract on Friday, according to the AP. He could have voided the final three years of the deal if the Marlins didn't have financing in place for a new stadium by Nov. 1. However, the Marlins guaranteed him the remaining $25.5 million on the deal, keeping him in Miami through the 2007 season.

It's beginning to look like the Marlins may be able to retain Mike Lowell because they are making progress toward finalizing a new stadium in downtown Miami, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Lowell's current contract states that he can become a free agent if a stadium deal is not in place by November 1.

Mike Lowell underwent a bone scan on his sore right elbow on Thursday and the test indicated that his pain is being caused by inflammation, according to the AP. A stress fracture was ruled out. Lowell will remain shut down for several more days, but, at this point, the medical staff believes that he should be ready to play after that.
