Still bothered by the shoulder injury sustained in August, David Ortiz will have the joint examined in Boston this week, according to the Boston Globe. "We think it's something that rest probably will take care of," GM Theo Epstein said, "but we want to make sure and learn as much about it as we can."

David Ortiz did not start Thursday night because of a sore right shoulder, according to the AP. He hurt his shoulder sliding into home plate Sunday and aggravated it with a swing Wednesday night. "The symptoms are consistent with bursitis in the shoulder," team physician Dr. Bill Morgan said. "There is no evidence of dislocation. There is no instability of the shoulder. He has good strength. There is no evidence of a rotator cuff tear." An MRI was possible if the shoulder does not improve by Friday.
