Luis Castillo reached a preliminary agreement with the Mets Sunday on a four-year, $25 million deal, according to the AP. The second baseman must pass a physical for the deal to be finalized.

New Astros GM Ed Wade plans to meet with free agent second baseman Luis Castillo. However, that doesn't mean the team is writing off Chris Burke as a potential replacement for Craig Biggio. "In our situation, we still view Burke as the heir apparent," Wade told the Houston Chronicle. "We would be comfortable with Chris in that role going forward. But at the same time, I just think it's incumbent upon us to look at the overall marketplace and see if there's ways to improve, as I said, at any position. We have to at least explore it. If at the end of the day we don't do anything else, I think the feeling internally and (among) people that know Chris a lot better than I do (is that we) feel that he's capable of being productive for us at the position. If that's the case, then I'm fine with that."

Luis Castillo was a late scratch Thursday because of a sore right knee, according to the Miami Herald. Castillo has dealt with soreness in the knee on and off throughout the year.

Luis Castillo did not start on Sunday, and he was limping before the game. His right knee was also wrapped in ice, the New York Post reports. Castillo says he does not have a serious injury and blames the Metrodome turf for wear-and-tear and soreness. He appeared as a defensive replacement later in Sunday's game.

The Mets acquired Luis Castillo from the Twins on Monday in exchange for two prospects - catcher Drew Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin, according to the AP. Castillo will take over the everyday second base duties for the Mets, replacing Ruben Gotay, who had been filling in for the injured Jose Valentin.

It's possible that Luis Castillo won't be able to take part in Monday's game against the Blue Jays. The visa he needs in order to travel to Toronto is at his Miami home, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I don't know if I can go," Castillo said. "I hope so, but maybe not." It will all depend on whether a friend of his is able to overnight it in time. If not, he probably will not be available until at least Tuesday.
