Luis Castillo said that his injured knee felt much better yesterday, and added that he would not be going on the DL, according to the Star Ledger. Manager Willie Randolph left him out of the lineup because he wanted to give him an extra day of rest. Castillo notably had surgery on the same knee after last season to clean it out, and his tightness on Tuesday raised some questions that the knee could be acting up again, but he said it was nothing compared to that. Castillo noted, "It's better. It was stiff, maybe from the cold weather. It's okay. It doesn't feel like last year." This is good news for the Mets' second baseman.

The NY Daily News reports that Luis Castillo wants to be the latest rehabbing Met to return to the depleted lineup on Wednesday. The second baseman told the media on Tuesday he's ready to make his spring-training debut, and do it as early as today against the Orioles at Tradition Field. Castillo is battling through knee soreness. "I feel fine, I just ran the bases one more time and I feel good to play," said Castillo, who was hampered by knee problems late last season after the Mets acquired him in July from Minnesota.
