Brewers GM Doug Melvin is still deciding whether or not to offer a specific contract offer to free agent pitcher Jeff Suppan, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'd say it's a possibility," said Melvin. "I haven't done anything yet. We're still discussing it and looking into it." Suppan supposedly has a four-year offer on the table from one of the following teams: New York Mets, Colorado, Houston, San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Kansas City.

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said Thursday that he will put together a proposal to Seth Leventhal, the agent for free agent Jeff Suppan, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He's still a productive pitcher, and he's a durable guy," Melvin said. "He has won 44 games the past three seasons. He has a good work ethic and he has pitched in some big games. He'd be a good influence on our other pitchers." Other rumored suitors of Suppan include the Giants, Mets, Rockies, Pirates, Royals and Cardinals.
December 12, 2006
Jeff Suppan's agent said that the Cardinals seem uninterested in bringing the pitcher back, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "The Cardinals appear to be exhausting every other resource imaginable for starting pitching to not jump into the fray for Soup," said Suppan's agent, Scott Leventhal. "The writing is on the wall. Based on that, we don't consider St. Louis one of the markets we're looking at. We've set our sights elsewhere. We haven't counted them out entirely. We have not closed the door. But realistically speaking, it seems they've set their sights on every other thing." The Pirates and Royals have shown interest in the veteran right-hander.
December 2, 2006
Although Jeff Suppan was offered arbitration by the Cardinals yesterday, but he's not expected to accept the offer, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He likely will be able to swing a free agent contract approaching $10 million. "I'd love to have Suppan back for a one-year deal," GM Walt Jocketty quipped. "But I don't expect that to happen."

They didn't really say anything yet," Suppan said before the postponement. "But as far as my preparation, it would be the same as if it wasn't getting rained out."
