| October 5, 2007 The St. Louis Cardinals exercised the option on closer Jason Isringhausen on Friday. The transaction will keep Isringhausen in St. Louis through the 2008 season. Isringhausen had a 4-0 record, 32 saves and a 2.48 ERA in 2007. According to the teams website the option is valued at $8 million next season. |
| July 30, 2007 Jason Isringhausen told the Cardinals that he won't waive his no-trade clause if the club tries to deal him. "I'm not going anywhere. I don't want to go anywhere," Isringhausen said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I still want to see this through. I think we have a chance, so why do I want to run away from it? Why not be part of something special? It would be something special if we come back from this. I'm happy here. That's the main thing." Izzy made a swift recovery from hip surgery and has converted 20 of 22 save tries this year, while posting a 1.45 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. |
| April 7, 2007 Jason Isringhausen said he felt as expected on Saturday, one day after the right-hander recorded his first save since undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery in September, the Cardinals official site reports. Isringhausen pitched a scoreless ninth for the 250th save of his career, which ranks 26th all-time and ninth among active players. "So far, so good," he said. "I was a little jittery, but I'm always that way with the first [save opportunity] of the year, but this year especially, after everything that happened." |

"His delivery looked great and his command was outstanding." Isringhausen, who is slated to pitch again on Sunday, pitched the first inning of the game instead of the ninth so he could throw to major league hitters. |

He threw to hitters on a back field for the third time on Monday and by all accounts was sharp "He's looked better every time out," catcher Gary Bennett said. "He was locating everything." Isringhausen was pain free, with no mechanical issues. "I just didn't have to really think about anything today," he said. "I just went out there and threw the ball, and everything was in place where it was supposed to be." |

Izzy looked sharp and threw strikes while warming up, but only a few of his 25 pitches went for strikes once hitters stepped in. Pitching coach Dave Duncan didn't seem too concerned about the closer, who is coming back from hip surgery. "He threw the ball good," Duncan said. "He wasn't real happy with his command. I'm looking at his stuff and his delivery and I thought he kept his delivery together good and his location will come as time goes on." |

Izzy reported no problems landing on his left leg, which is what left him in pain much of last season. "It's a much more positive situation when you come in here feeling good physically," said Isringhausen, who conceded Tuesday that his hip never allowed him to feel comfortable last spring. "It's one reason I struggled so much with my command. It was never really right." He said he will throw again Friday and plans to make his spring debut on Mar. 15. If he has no setbacks, it appears Izzy will be ready at the start of the season. |
