Vladimir Guerrero told the AP that he has recovered from his late-season knee injury and did not need surgery. Guerrero made the comments from David Ortiz's charity softball game in the Dominican Republic.

The Angels have decided to shut Vladimir Guerrero down for the remainder of the season, according to the LA Daily News. He's dealing with pain in his heel and knee. "Vlad has had a terrific season and there is nothing really left for him to prove or do," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Where his heel is and being banged up there is no benefit for him to play."

Vladimir Guerrero was again used as the designated hitter on Tuesday, with Juan Rivera replacing him in right field. Guerrero's knees are sore. "He's banged up and it's tough for him to move," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Vlad's defense is affected a little when his knees are sore."

Vladimir Guerrero was the Angels' designated hitter Friday because his right foot was sore after fouling a ball off it a few days before, according to the LA Times. He could be back in right field as soon as this evening, though.

Vladimir Guerrero left Saturday's game against the Red Sox in the fifth inning due to fatigue, according to the AP. He was replaced by Curtis Pride. It's not known if the fatigue is related to a more serious issue.

Vladimir Guerrero has just 11 hits in his past 70 at-bats, and his batting average has dropped to just .290. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said that after the team is off Thursday, he might give Guerrero another day or two off in an attempt to shake the slugger from his slump, according to the LA Times. "Every hitter is prone to slumps, but this is one of the toughest stretches Vlad has ever gone through," Scioscia said.

Vladimir Guerrero got a routine day of Saturday in the hope that he'll snap out of a slump during which he's hit just .162 over his past nine games, according to the LA Times. "I think, mentally, he just needs a day to sit and watch," manager Mike Scioscia said.

The manager of the Dominican Republic's World Baseball Classic team placed Vladimir Guerrero on the seven-day bereavement list, in the hope Guerrero may join the team later in the tournament, according to the LA Times. However, Guerrero, who opted out of the games after three cousins died in a car accident, sounded like he wasn't going to change his mind. "It makes me feel happy, like I'm part of the team, to have my uniform in a locker there," Guerrero said through an interpreter. " … But no matter what they do, in the second or third round, my mind is going to be here."

Vladimir Guerrero rejoined the Angels yesterday after taking two days to grieve for three cousins killed in a car accident Sunday, according to the LA Times. Upon his arrival, he announced that he will not take part in the WBC. "I feel mentally that I can't compete at a level that will be respectable to the people watching," Guerrero said through an interpreter. "I don't want to cheat anybody, and at this point, to be able to give it 100 percent would be impossible. I prefer to be around here to get ready for the season."

Vladimir Guerrero was given Monday off after after three cousins died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic, according to the AP. "Anytime something like this happens everybody feels it," manager Mike Scioscia said. "It's a tough time for Vladdy. He's excited about playing baseball and excited about a lot of things, but unfortunately this happened and, obviously, there are other priorities." Vlad is expected to be back at camp on Tuesday.
